The 34pic is 1500 year old English churchyard yew which came down in the great storm of 1986,
That particular piece was only 1" thick 12" wide and 6' long, but has the most amazing detail of anything I have ever seen, It was a once in a lifetime burred from end to end have 2 pieces left which are cheese board show pieces.
Will post you some foggies tomorrow----been a long day-----you don't come across a fender every day of your life.
24 hours ago, I had never even heard of one

C'mon Stevie Baby, the minute I saw you I knew you had some Greek in you, you had to be STAVROS. HAUSER and I agreed it was the right thing years ago.

ROTORY John really stirred the pot when he asked where I got the wood from, told you he could stir up a storm without even trying, another great character I met during the journey of life.
Taking a couple of days off, driving down to Somerset today to see Jilly's boy Mat and family, have to go across the levels which have been under water for 3months.
Taking the iPad so will keep in touch.
Won' t be facing your planks 'till Monday Don, then you can decide which way is up.
Had a look at some strato shapes---there' everything from a Banjo to a teardrop, you could almost do a freehand cut on the bandsaw and it wouldn't be out of place.
Might take the fender to bits and do a dummy run with a wild shape body and stick the hardware back on, just to get some direction.
Would you believe I just got an offer of £200 for the fender, will have to wait ' till I finished mutilating said instrument. (£188 profit is not to be sniffed at)

That's the 2013 old farts golf tourney, Doreen and Rich Luhrs, Betty and Bill Baker, Seebold himself, Mark Rathmell, the Preacher is there somewhere.

had a brainstorm and thought could do the body as a boat in some form coming out like Polaris!!!
maybe do the whole instrument out of one piece, expensive ,but could be done, but does the grain run horizontal or vertical. Lot to think about over the next couple days

Here I am with Mathew ( Jill's boy) in deepest Somerset and he shows me a solid burr, think it's Walnut, but wouldn't bet the farm on it. Barely big enough, but if I altered the shape a little i could make a different body. Will buy a 2" slice off him and get to work on it next week.

Just got Monday and Tuesday to mess about and get some idea of which road were going down.
mind focused on two pieces now, found some birds eye maple but I'm running before I can toddle here, first time in ages my candle has been lit. Promise you'll like it Don, and it won't cost the earth.
tell you Thursday when you can see some sort of progress.
If you don't like what you see, no obligation.

Don, how close to the Quanteco or the American Ash strato do want this.?
all the shapes are basically the same, though I could thin the perimeter much nicer than the original.
Elongate the body a tad and imagine.
Family tied for two days, after that I'm a free agent, and the cogs start engaging.

jack, try to keep the body similar in size, I play sitting down so weight isn't an issue. I want it to fit in a display case which would allow a stretch of 2" max from the tail to the neck socket.the horn design is all yours!

There's normally just two horns at the top, how 'bout I give you two more at the bottom corners and beat polished alloy around the tips ?
Off to Martock to see some burr timber, the Walnut burr Mat has is a tad too small .
done a couple of templates, cogitating on whether I should do a bit of radical or trad, will cobble something together Monday.

Jackie: I'll send you some picture next week of some of the work I do with wood. You'll be surprised. Now if someone will tell me how to add pictures, I'll be all set.
    Thanks.

Johnno, once you have been shown it's real easy.
best way is to pull any kid, six years upwards off the street and get it to show you how to do a download of any photo, give him or her the iPad, they are ALL amazing .When their done, pat the head, give em a biscuit and kick 'em out, you do not want to know how smart today's kid is.
Or we could do it the hard way ,just follow these instructions.
    Tap on "reply to thread"
In the box write your message
Topright hand side of box, tap middle square icon.
New window opens, tap on "computer"
    Tap on choose file
    Tap on choose existing
Photos opens up tap on camera roll.
choose desired photo and one will appear.
    press "upload file"
Have a beer and a sandwich 'cos this takes a while.

Then tap on "post quick reply"

God but I'm good to you Johnno.

Sold-------sold " the windsurfer" to a gentleman with taste in Canada.
he liked it, asked the price, told him, he wrote back "where do I send the. Cheque.?
Have to get daughter Sam (she runs a shipping agency out of Heathrow) to give me a price for shipping said article.
Food on the table next week,(times are hard) and a celebratory bottle of Canadian Club.
May have to do him another one, I know I can improve on it.
depends if I can get away from the time thief, seem to be sleeping longer these days.
Will post some pics of the burrs -----schools still out on that one.

DON---WOULD YOU CONSIDER A WHALE TAIL BASE ..? MIGHT BE A BIT OF FUN!!!!!!
