In those far off days we were very good friends.
In later years, when when Mark went to work with Rolla in Lugano, Renato worked closely with him on his race props.
All my kids are still friends with Giorgio Molinari, Bob Spalding’s kids —- The Seebold’s— etc.
Its a fact that all my friends stem from power boat racing.

Got a really pleasant surprise today Sam bought me this book
It’s about the life and times of Kieth Duckworth —— First Principles —— written by Norman Barr.
The Author rang me a few years back and asked if I would care to comment on the accident involving Bill Brown and myself—- I declined to comment and left it at that!
Book is expensive at £35 Sterling but five minutes into reading it I can honestly say—- it’s worth every penny.
Even a couple of piccies of the Cosworth in there.
But again, I suppose I am a tad biased!

Was well turned midnight before I put FIRST PRINCIPLES down—- amazing how similar Keith’s life and mine ran in parallel . Birthplace— upbringing— he achieved much more than I ever did—- was also far cleverer—— as first principles prove.
It makes for some fascinating reading!
ill bring it to Tavares and pass it around—— it’s a lot easier reading than the IRON FIST but again it’s about a great engineer.
Cant help but wonder what the outcome would have been had Carl and Keith ever got together.
One big difference is Keith never borrowed money —— he only spent what he made—- and invested heavily in new machinery.
Told you—- you should read it!—- it’s fascinating.

Decided to clear out the shed—— it was full to busting of boxes of stuff I’d fernagled over the years!
Came across a tea chest full of boat racing trophies including the 1978 Duchess of York And the 1970 Chasewater 500 mile cup.
Gave ‘em all to my grandkids to share out amongst themselves, the last of over 300 cups I’d won over the twenty odd years of racing.
Found over 100 “Concepts” in various guises —— of course it had to piss down heavily all day—— so we put everything on the table under the gazebo, so the kids could pick out the pieces that they wanted.
Came across four “Wings” including Kenny Kitsons DIABLO and a pair of 700 fully enclosed Switzer.
Four fighter aircraft, two in metal and two in wood .
Think the kids picked out some Thirty objects including the locomotive I made for WILLABEE several years ago.
Another of the kids coming Saturday to delve through the debris of what’s left.
I sent a chest full to Ratbag at Geico to put on sale at the next offshore meeting.
Might send one of the Rolls Royce Silver Ghost’s over to Gary to sell——- bear in mind any one of these concepts take me a month to complete.—- so they will not come cheap.
The number one went to Rich Luhrs —— And number five is for my daughter Sam—— that leaves numbers two three and four. .
Dont have any plans for further Rolls Royce Concepts —— oh yes I nearly forgot—- for what it’s worth—- each one is signed and numbered.

Ah well, it appears I didn’t impress anyone enough to cause a comment—— well, that’s fair enough—— as my sainted mother used to say——— someday son, you eat bear. ————!,!,
Sam asked me if I’d like to go to the Bahamas for a long weekend—— apparently she liked it so much that Mark is taking her again on Thursday and would I like to tag along.
Now that’s all very well if you’re a couch potato or a “normal” retired 87 year old person—— unfortunately or fortunately depending on which way you’re looking —— I’m not. I have quite a busy life, and it’s difficult to fit everything in.
I still went to the scrapyard on Thursday and spent £20 on bits of metal that I felt would be needed some time in the future——- still went to the car boot sale and picked up seven beautiful old racing cars—— simply because I envisaged a new concept at that particular moment in time.
Did find time to make another of my world famous Apple pies——- the one that mother wished she knew how to make ???
Thats for the after party that Sams having at her house——- after her race debut at Goodwood today.
So, you see, I only get the four hours this morning in the shop !
Like I said, it’s a job trying to fit everything in——- and I don’t have that much time left for simply swanning around the Bahamas!

you probably called it right Pilgrim—— but, you know what my sainted mother used to say—- home is where the heart is, I know she was correct.
So much for the pundits and their doom and gloom global warnings——- we have crap weather and an occasional half tidy summer.

Decided I’m going to give the six day trip to florida a miss this time, takes me a week to get over the flight—- same coming back—- so that’s three weeks out of my life that I can Ill afford at this stage of the game.
November trip to Tavares is something much more enjoyable—— old boats—- old friends—— Old Farts—- old stories.
There won’t be that many times I’ll be making the trip—- simple logic tells me that—- that and the fact that several friends who were there last year— won’t be there this year.
So, God willing —- I’ll see you in Tavares on November 15/17th!.

Thought it was only Jap tourists that wore those things Fuji—— for when there was SMOG about—- we still have plenty of the grandkids old diapers skulling about the house somewhere ! Plus, I can imagine I’m John Wayne when I tie one round my neck and pull it up over my nose!

Seebold and Stickle both coming to Tavares, along with Butler, looks like it’s going to be a great weekend.
I love it when a plan comes together.
