    OMC 2 L porting

    I realize that there has been alot of talk about porting on the OMC v6 loopers and some info can relate to the v4 looper but has anyone ever ported the pistons with good results and also has anyone thought of boost tubes which would act simular to finger ports but would only require drilling and tapping holes in the cyl (the height of the intake ports) and running some kind of fittings (like compression fittings and synflex line - like found in truck air brakes) to the lower crankcase?
    Just curious
    My block is a 83 and has no finger port boss.

    I don't know of any v4 blocks with finger port bosses. I'm not saying there never were any just never seen them. You can weld on the block or use epoxy to add the material necessary to make it behind liner or finger port. If you weld be aware that it is highly possible the block will warp causing the crank to bind. The epoxy is quick but usually cracks and leaks after awhile. I'm not trying to be negative just my little bit of experience. In my opinion it's worth the power gain. It is a ton of work.

    Thanks Freddie I really value your input.
    Have you ever heard of raising or lowering the ports in the pistons. I have widened the piston ports on a 70 hp johnson and it really seemed to wake up the engine on the top end, but these v4's are quite different.

    Fist 2.0 was in 1988 an 83 would be a cross flow. If it is a 93 finger ports can be added with out epoxy or welding you just can go .500 deep generally .350 is safe. Location of the finger port in the piston changes the length of the slot needed in the block. Tried external like you mentioned but does not work as well.

    Thanks Racer I appreciate the info - my block is a 93. Def. a looper.
    Would it matter where the crankcase hole is drilled?
