I would say it depended on whether you where talking about skeeter's with motors on em not above CG rating or motors on em that some folks had big enough nads to run.
The Wrangler with 140 was by far the quickest I run across SEVERAL that where 60 + with ease if you could hang onto em. Then the Starfire was next .... Right power I knew of several running high 70'sLaser 1550 ...under construction with a serious weight loss
Motor 2.4....undecided on hp yet

a champion super 16 would be better. skeeters are crap. I think if you use a skeeter the driver will be a sleeper.

zx190 (was orig. zx185) they had to install rear turn downs on the chines to slow the boat and aid in handling for the general public. there is a video out there and pics of the boat being tested in the salt.

x2 on the Champion 16'-8" or even a 17'-6". Handle good and take overpowering pretty well if you're into that. If it's gotta be a skeeter, the older wranglers were rated for 150's and hauled the mail back in the day. 175 Starfires I always thought were better looking boats, but like one of the previous guys said, it was tough to drive fast, and had a pretty bad backwash coming off plane for some reason.

Overpowering a wrangler they get really squirlly and dont drive well. A wrangler will not perform with a starfire. We had a wrangler with a 225, it was a bear. Got rid of that and we got a Venture with a 200, it was faster becasue it was more drivable even with less power. It's going to either be a Starfire 150 or a 175. i don't know yet but i will sometime this year. I have been mid 80's in a starfire 150 with a highly modified 2.0 and it felt like it could take some more power. it's hard for it to get it to pack air and fly right. the 175 starfire is a little heavier but will pack air better. I've never driven a highly overpowered 175 starfire but i would suspect it could use the HP better and have more hull lift packing air. A 150 SF will run off and leave the champ mentioned when set up correctly hp for hp. I am going to freshen up my 150 SF and do some mods too it here soon as soon as I get the drag set-up lined out on my bullet. I might even drag the SF for the heck of it a few times, looking at the rules i think it might do ok at 2.0 superstock weight..... Keep us posted on your adventure , would be cool to see what you come up with vs what I do. I see you are from west monroe?? I am originally also. Our wrangler my dad had when it was new, i don't know if anyone up there remebers the boat from the late 70's but someone might. My uncles stream ran hard too. We used to run the river and desiard alot... I'll try to find some old pics of the wrangler with the 225 and scan them
