He has early manifolds with later airbox so he is fine on the hose. Your carbs don't have the inserts for the airbox to hold it in place.

Plumbing in photo 1 is wrong. From rear elbow on adapter to bottom of valve, back of valve to heads, front goes overboard. The front fitting on the adapter is an exit on power steering engines and is not used. Do not idle any longer on the hose 2 hrs is already to much. You need to get back pressure on the exhaust and start getting a light load from idle to 1500 and slowly work up.

if you want to run the late air box on the early carbs you just need to press out two of the brass inserts from the late model carbs and slightly enlarge two of the holes in the early carbs and press in the brass inserts. sorry just read and looked at the carbs and realized you are using late carbs.

Blew it up to see the rear adapter hose and looks to be going to bottom of valve. The t fitting that has to hose going to front adapter is not used and adapter is plugged on non power steering engines.
The 98 carbs came stock with a 72D which has about a .075 hole so with the work you have done and heads you are running a jet drilled (dont like) to .078 will most likely be lean at sea level.
