1996 Mirage Jaguar/Ski Racer freshened up

This past August, I picked up this Mirage in FL. I only ran it a handful of times and was struggling with it hopping in the 60mph range. Since our boating season has wrapped up I decided to bring the boat in the shop and flip it over to see what's going on. The center pad looked to be in good shape but further forward on the boat, someone had previously repaired it with some type of putty, I'm thinking duraglass. They just piled it on and never sanded it then spray bombed it. I fixed that area up and also fixed up all the gouges and other imperfections running along the tunnel edges. I also wanted to re clear coat the boat. The gel coat was pretty faded and there was something separating in the gel coat and it had little sparkle looking things all through out the black on the boat. The front nose was also smashed up in the past. Looked like it had hit the bow stop on the trailer and cracked it. Once all those repairs were made, we re cleared the boat. Here are some pictures of everything.

Color finished on the front nose. Other pictures are of the cowling. Someone took 2 drywall screws and ran them down through to pull the busted support underneath the cowling up tight.

Looks great. Did you use gel for the clear or automotive paint?

Well trust me, I wouldn't have gone through all this crap if it wasn't hopping. I moved the motor up and down to nearly every spot to try and it didn't make a difference whether it was from 1/2" to 1 1/2" above the pad. As soon as you would hit 58mph on GPS it would just start bouncing. When I had 2 other people in the boat with me it seemed to be better.

Next thing to fix is the floor under the driver seat. There is a pretty good spot that is rotted out that I can pretty much push my finger right through.

I'm going to wait until Spring to dress the trailer back up. I will probably re do all the wiring and lights, re paint it, and put new fenders on it. Then hopefully it would be good for another 17 years of use.
