Yup ! and a merc trim pump aswell 2 ports in the valve body pluged off. I also used 24v trim and start (2 batteries run in series) made for very quick trim adjustments and starting.

Bull they V4s had a pressure back top ring while the ccc had upper and lower groove rectangle rings, they were the same as the lower ring if memory serves me right. I may still have some of the rings. Both pistons came with the scallop however the ccc would last longer at high rpm because the rings kept it straighter in the bore. We did run ccc pistons in the later 4s that we built.

Original equipment on these engines did not use a merc trim ram I believe they were made by prestolite.

Did the Strangler lower units have a 13, or 15 spline shaft?

I'm assuming that the mid section below is the Super Strangler which were only 15" I believe. I can see now where the single hydraulic trim ram was anchored.
So it looks like you bolted a metal receiving platform to the boats transom with 4 through bolts and then the trim ram attached to where the arrow points.

Allen i didn`t know that about the ccc piston rings. Yep, The V-4 GP pistons we used had the power back top ring located high on the piston. We tried to get some before the large scallop was cut so we could use our smaller cut but no luck.
I had a Strangler once. Bought a wrecked Scotty hull with it on it and was a very reliable lil motor. I rigged it on one of Wayne Weeks old Vandel and it was a competitive rig in the 100ci unlimited class. I did try it with the 8 barrol set up but didn`t work very well in the drag racing segmint of our program. Did well off the start boat in closed coarse races tho. We ran the club foot. The owner decided one day to put the 15/17 speedy on and blew it over at Lake Buhlow.

The trim ram bracket was a factory item, part of the engine. It was cast aluminum and very beefy with reinforcement ribs and a very thick trim ram bracket. I don't have a photo handy.

Sorry, I don't have a spare one available. It's mounted in the engine at this point.

Guys: The factory race engine of the early '70s used 2 Mec power trim units; one for trim (in & out) and one for lift. I actually designed and built a single pump unit as a weight saving that did both, but since Blanchard didn't design it, it was never used. The V-4's put out 180/185 PROPSHAFT hp at the time. That's why when the rotary hit at 265 PROPSHAFT hp they were so dominant.

Who`s Blanchard? Sounds like corporate politics/egos involved.
