i'm struggling to see where all the weight is missing re a stocker, lots of steel bits ina twin pinion lower so they are heavy
15" mid with no inner would save a bit as would the flywheel..

While I tend to agree that 258lbs seems on the light side, the Super Strangler/Stinger GP 8 pumpers were full factory race motors even though the public could buy them. JWTjr will be along hopefully to provide some insights for sure. I believe that he owns/owned BOTH a Strangler 135 Consumer and a Super Strangler V4 Race Edition 8 pumper.

If a Super Strangler/Stinger GP 15" made 200hp and only weighed 258lbs then OB's have been going backwards ever since 1975

I do have both, but the fishing 135 is not even close to stock and therefore couldn't be weighed as such. The 258-lb weight of the KR15 came before it was disassembled for restoration. I weighed it on my digital scale, complete with trim and lift pumps. It is still not back together yet but it is close--powerhead is done, mid, and gearcase too. It does not have the 8-barrel back on it as these can be finicky and I want it to be easy to start and run well. Later in the early to mid 1980s the KR15 was run in a class called Formula 100, which allowed the engine but only 4 carb throats--so guys installed the 140 intake and carbs and ran it that way. That's how mine is set up now. Regarding horsepower, I would have to see a KR15 make 200 hp on a dyno to believe it. I don't think they were ever even close. I think the best of the best (those run by Jimbo, Tom Posey, Barry Woods, etc.) may have made around 170 or so, but that's the best there was. Most made in the 150-160 range at best.

They are. Took a lot of research to ensure that I used the right paint. Thanks to Bob Zipps for that help.

Yes--you texted me these pics awhile ago. Beautiful job--I assume this is Jeffro's work?

JeffB and AaronW. They made a correct color cowling that is much prettier in my opinion. It's actually too shiny. Also, Jeff is building a KR with both gearcases for I don't remember who down in TX. No powerhead though, just the cowling, pan, exhaust, mid and gearcases. I'll take a picture of it when it's together on the stand.

Did you see the other post on the Allishot? It's like being back at Hydrostream. I forgot what building an entire deck plug was like.

Ha. I wish. I'm just the labor. My 16yr old son bought the boat because it was the only way he could afford something cool, big and maybe fast. The motor is going to be a flatback crossflow OMC until he learns to drive a fast v-bottom.

I'm excited to see your Evinrude. Your stuff is always over the top, and correct down to the last lock washer.

Just teasin' ya Pete. Wow your boys are gettin' big. Must be 16-17 by now, huh?

Nice to see your son(s) into it. So many of our kids' generation don't care about this stuff. My daughters did when they were younger, but now, not so much. They never really got "bit" by the performance outboard bug.

    Thanks for the compliment.

ID:	288220Credit for this KR has to go to Gohr...he built it, I just supplied the money and parts. He did a fantastic job, all the little details--even had the coil bracket and similar parts cad plated to look like new--also used the right hoseclamps, etc. Just beautiful. Spent a long time prepping for the paint, even ordered the right paint from the guy in FL (forget the name, makes all new reproduction old outboard paints). I was just out there a month or so ago, and worked on the boat for a long weekend. Got the cockpit ready for rigging, finished the tail cowl, hung the centersection, did a lot of other stuff. It's pretty close now, just needs to be rigged and tested. Here's a couple pics...

John, if a factory Super Strangler/Stinger GP had a Doc Jones "stacker" 4 pipe open exhaust from his Skunk Works installed what do you reckon that would have done for the horsepower? Also, is that a Super Strangler KR15 Lower Unit in your pic?
