He mentioned cut back 0.030". I've looked for it , I think I've read and seen a pic once but I can't find it.

    here it is
I can see there are no dimensions for the finger port, perhaps Al will jump in and let us know
I'm not sure the window should be over the pin or on the inlet side?
( that piston is a high ringer so bottom ring is further form the wrist pin)

Not exactly what I thought but it clearly shows the deflector ends.

How about the outside corners of the inlet ports where the factory didnt drill all the way through on v4 with 4 ports.
Should you continue the machining or clean up from the piston side and angle them towards the middle?
Should help cool the deflector corners I would think?

Finger port over top of wrist pin, favored slightly to intake side. When cutting port into block you leave just enough for ring support next to intake port (thus more support on exhaust side) then line up hole in piston to match. You can also at this point cut deflector toward exhaust, dont do this without finger ports.

many thanks Racer, how about the machining on the outside edge of the inlet ports where the factory doesnt plunge the tool right in so it has sharp edges and reduced area?
Should you blend that from the bore side back to the port so it aims towards the middle or the bore?

Powerabout if you do blend you take up area needed for finger ports, also never found gains in power by doing that.

currently building this v4 to "9 pages" specs but not altering the port heights. my query is about adding finger ports.from reading several posts on S&F i came to a general understanding of these ports and were to place them ,my question is how wide to go(i was thinking around 15mm so as to leave some beef over the 19mm g.pin in the piston!(meaning the port in the piston and the actual finger will be of the same width.!) and more importantly how deep should i go ? should i stay around 1.5mm so i don`t penetrate the steel sleeve or just keep digging to maybe 2.5mm and end up in the aluminium liner (would be way better flowing i`m guessing ??)also just to make sure others have pointed out the importance of placing the ring locating pin dead center in the finger port so as to avoid clipping any ring ends is this correct? i really dont wanna go to the trouble of relocating the ring locating pins .the pistons are low ring cast. tnx for any help!!
