I towed a 14' Jon Boat that had the front 3rd of the boat made into a casting deck, rest had wood flooring with carpet front to back. 18hp Johnson tiller, 45# thrust trolling motor, built in cooler and livewell...towed it with a 1997 Cavalier. I cut the bumper cover out behind the license plate and welded a square tube into the actual bumper...up to 85mph you never knew it was back there. When I got the boat I have now I towed it a time or two...just around town to get lunch etc...it towed it but I was scared of burning up my new transmission...my 1999 S10 with the 4.3 tows the Cobra to highway speeds with ease.

You can tow with pretty much any car (that has decent power of course). Hitch receiver is not a problem. There are trailer hitch receivers for pretty much any modern car model, even for cars like Civic, accord and so on.

I just bought a 25 foot Temptation weighing in at about 7500 lbs but my tow vehicle is a Ford Explorer with tow package, rated only for 5000 lbs My question is if i go slowly, not too far or too fast, activate the towing gearing, and keep the engine temperature down, can I get away with it, or will the car/boat/trailer package be dangerously unstable? Thanks

Its never a problem until you have to turn or stop "FAST". Just get a truck to pull your boat and drive your car during the week-its what everybody else does and it will be way less expensive then the potential lawsuits if something happens. I had a 25 Temptation that I had a new tandem "Owens and Sons" alum. trailer built for and it towed great but they are a big boat going down the road. I couldn't imagine doing it with anything less then my 4 door F250 Diesel but that's just me.

Thanks for the advice, Joe. Could you help me with a related problem with my 25 Temptation? I have to get access to the wiring "tunnel" behind the starboard side switch panel, and can't reach it from the cabin portal. Do you know if the panel on the starboard side just aft of the helm is detachable? Thanks

Back in the day we didn’t worry about tow rating, we just did it. My 64 Dodge with the Poly 318 pulled my 16 foot boat back and forth 150 miles for a few years with no trouble at all. Last year I brought home my CPS15 with my 16 Patriot 2.4 6 sp auto. I also used the Patriot to pull my 20 foot Thompson back from the marina a time or two, only 5 miles at about 40 mph. Back in 2001 I bought a new 27 Captiva, my 91 Chevy truck had a 350 with the 5sp stick, it didn’t like pulling the boat up the ramp so I sold that truck and bought a 96 Chevy 3500 with a 454 auto, it could pull most anything. LOL
