I agree with the advice so far, but alot of guys get to concerned about how well a car pulls being determined by how must power it has.. IMO power doesn't qualify much at all in regard to towing with a car.. Remember these cars are designed with maximum crash safety in mind, and the hitches very well may be bolted into a designated crumple zone thats not rated for the physics that go on with a trailered load on bumpy roads and/ or hard braking..
Not framed like back in the day when a four door family car was pretty much a 1/2 ton truck with a trunkKevin Kiser

Before the 80,s most people towed there 20ft and under boats with a car because there wasn't to many pickups back then like now. Most of the cars were full framed v8 cars like the Crown vic, Galaxy 500, Chevell,Monty Carlo,Tornado. Hears an Old pic of my uncles of the towing they did back in the 50,s haha .

Yeah, it's a mini-van...
This shot is included in the 2000 Chrysler Town & Country dealership brochure.
The van is the Limited with AWD & 4 W Discs, Trans & engine oil coolers. Factory Towing package rated at 3500 lbs A quite capable towing rig.
I've used mine to tow boats & cars across several states out west.
Equipped with every luxury option and when not towing on a road-trip it returns around 25 mpg. Town & Country vans are still on the market. I love buying the top of the line models lightly used and avoid the depreciation blues.

My 2001 Ford Escape 4x4 has been towing my boat around for almost 8 years. It now has 256,000 miles on it and never skips a beat. Going to tow the boat to another local lake today I've still never been to yet.
Many wife wants us to get a minivan for family trips and such. If I could find one with AWD and the factory trans cooler, I think that would be my next tow vehicle.'89 Hydrostream Vegas XT, '90 Merc 2.4 Bridgeport PCU EFI

Just a short story , I had a 1993 chev I towed lots of weight with the truck , My charger weighed in around 2000/ 2200 with trailer and rigging . I had no issues at all . I moved up to a 1998 with abs , the first time I went to go on the Brakes at speed I almost ditched it , not stopping at all . The fix for me was surge brakes on the trailer .

Since I play with smaller boats our 2013 dodge grand caravan does great. Curt class 3/4 hitch so standard reciever. I use a 2" rise hitch and pulls our 70's pop up and either of my current boats (2100 and 1100 lbs). (78 yarcraft 160 and glasstron gt150).
I did upgrade with a transmission cooler and heavy duty royor and brakes up front.

I towed a 1982 19ft Checkmate Eluder 350 I/O with a 1981 Buick Electra Park Ave for many years. Only had issues at the ramp twice, both times the boat ramp was steep and gravel/sand and car needed help to haul the boat out. I thought I was doing well, but eventually switched over to a 4x4 Suburban. I wouldn't go back to trailering with a car now that I have been spoiled with a truck.
