ok chevy guys it seems i have a clunking in the differential on my 01 silverado ?
as i rock the truck in park i hear and feel a clunk in the tire and it is slipping from a stop sign
if i go really slow and let it roll off its not as bad
any ideas
i will see tomorrow how much slop is in the pinion by turning it on flat ground in neutral

worn out clutches in a limited slip or posi trac rear generally does not make any noise or slippage going straight. the signs of bad clutches is a popping or catching when turning. or a crab walk feel going straight. hard to explain but when accelerating in a straight line at light throttle the rear will feel like it binding up a little then snap loose. 2 different size tires on the rear will cause it to do the same thing. if it is a steady bang, bang, bang noise could be a broken tooth on either the ring gear or pinion or both. a loud bang every now and then is usually caused by the cross pin retaining bolt sheared off. that lets the pin walk out until it hit the pinion gear and gets knocked back in. that is until it slides out a little to far and tears up everything.

Lol have fun with that . I use a really big hammer to get the nasty ones apart and have it down to about 5 good smacks to spit the rotors when the linings fall off the emergency shoes and lock the rotors up.

Check the yoke that goes into the transfer case. They have issues with them clunking. My 99 half ton does it pretty bad... I did clean & grease it all and it helped.
Sure your T-Case isnt about to blow the chain out the side of it?Sunsation 32 Dominator - 496 MAG HOs

Your post seems to indicate two issues, first the "clunk" that may be a e-brake lining but sounds like maybe a spider gear pin in the diff wollerd out.The second issue "slipping"on take off, could only be a trans issue. Its dought full you have both, bad diff and bad trans at the same time.---If you could explain the slip issue a little more it may help.
