    98 150 mariner 2.5 magnum 3

Was wondering if anyone could tell me anything about this motor. Wanted to know if this block is ok for porting to 260 specs. And if the magnum 3 means anything like the xri motors. Anyone have some info? I also have 96 2.5 200 merc. I'm pretty sure they are the same block. Don't know for sure thanks

It is the Mariner twin to the Merc XR6. The older ones like that can have the rev limiter disabled and some guys turn them 7000 or so, but they are plenty strong at the stock revs. Leave it alone and run it...they are fishing motors that you could trust 100 miles offshore and back every day of the week.
