Race fuel cells for marine use

I'm looking at relocating my bow mounted 18 gallon fuel tank to the rear of my hull as part of a restructuring of the transom support knees and would like to use one of race car fuel cells so it fits my space.

It will be above deck but enclosed under a platform with a trapdoor for fuelling at the pump. Any pitfalls I need to be aware of before I go ahead and order a plastic tank?

I realize I'll need to fab some SS straps to avoid corrosion issues etc and venting needs to happen outside the hull but what about foam inside the tank?

They sell plastic tanks inside an aluminum tub for circle track racing are these better or would the bladder types be better?

Hard to find an EPA certified version of these tanks with the nylon coating inside to reduce fumes except for the Mueller tanks, should I forget the racecar types and just get the Moeller tank upfront to avoid the issue...kind of like the foam inside to reduce sloshing though.

Just want to do it right the first time and avoid fumes and disintegrating foam blocking my filters if they can't survive the marine environment.

Jaz plastic tanks are nice. Baffles, locking cap. Seen plenty in race boats.

Fuelsafe and ATL make the best cells in many price ranges. If you budget allows they will make it to your specs to fit just where you want it.

Thanks guys, Jaz tanks was exactly what I was looking at on Summit...doesn't mention baffles on the Jaz website though. Guess I should phone them to verify, not sure about foam in the tank...I would rather have baffles.

There will not be any baffles in that tank.

Most aftermarket race tanks have foam and I wouldn't trust it over the long term. I use an aluminum tank that I special ordered from RCI with baffles in it. It's a request that they've honored for several of us that race. They weld the baffles in the tank before they weld the top on. They did a great job with it. I called the company direct
