Mystery Yamaha electrical part (part of trim wiring harness)
Pulling apart my wiring harness and eliminating a lot of it.
This was plugged into two bullet connectors near the trim switch in the lower cowl and grounded to block. It is color coded for the trim system.
The system works fine with it removed,. The black block shaped end somewhat soft, like a hard rubber material. Looked at parts diagrams and could not find anything like it.
What is it?

Your remote trim switch still works? Just thinking out loud, some circuits have active ground and apply 12volts to relay. Maybe your remote has active 12 volts and needs ground for remote switch?

Remote on steering wheel and cowl mounted switches work fine. Boat is all buttoned up for the night but I am wondering if its a resistor that effects trim speed.

Maybe put an ohm meter on the ground and each of the leads. Open, closed, resistance? Might tell you something. I just can't think of a good reason why a control wire would want any ground unless that was the circuit it was meant to complete. Oh well, I tried.

Man, that's pretty close to a closed circuit. I'm guessing your motor is 2 wire, do your remote buttons apply voltage or ground to your trim relays? Maybe a triac switch, overload? Instead of a fuse. Don't let me screw you up, I know just enough to confuse somebody.

Looks to me like quick connects if another remote was needed.

No one had ever been able to tell me what it is. Check it like a diode, I think it may be prevent you from hitting both trim switches at the same time, as in one going up and one going down.

Rumor is its a diode that prevents a high voltage spike when the trim motor stops.

I believe it is a diode as well.
