I did transom to sides in one shot, 12 inches in on the sides, I just copied what the factory did, I then put another smaller layer on after, 1708 is a biaxial with 0.8 ounce csm stitched onto the backside

A lots of push ,shove twist and thrust goes onto the transom and has a heavy motor hanging on there as well . the more you can tie and hold it in place and distribute all those thing out onto the hull its self the better and less problems you will have in the future !!
The transoms I been doing recently we been using ply where the boat is mounted and then glassing it 100% then fitting 30 mm thick high density foam each side of the transom and then glassing totally over the top yet again also keeping the drain hole area clear of wood and just solid glass so the only way water can get into the ply is the bolt holes and if they are sealed well its just about impossible for water to get in any where else !!.Messing round with boats is fun !! the learning never stops ,even after more than 30 years there's always something new happening somewhere ! BUT somethings never change and some problems never go away and just keep reoccurring !!so moved into Composite Forensics , Now that something completely new !!

I plan on adding some gussets from transom to the sides, I noticed powerplay boats have them, seems like a pretty good idea, I've been trying to look at the way other manufactures build their boats and if they have a good idea on how to make something stronger or more user friendly or a way to make it look cleaner I'd like to incorporate it into my rebuild

I have also seen people epoxy in stainless tube to where the motor and other through bolts go through the transom to stop water from gettin in and possible wood damage from over tightening the bolt, looking for some good info on how to go about sealing up the transom the best way

Man I hate imperial measurements !! Oz and inch's and pounds etc its been so long since the rest of the world changed !! I have to find old references we forgotten 30 or more years ago . Kilograms and millimetres is much easier and don't have to rethink the past !! also the reference of 1708 or 1808 glass the US is the only country on the planet the uses such a thing ! SORRY !!

Looking like a real nice piece of work you have done there. Over here I use fibre glass tube as crush tubes for bolting on engines, jack plates, trim tabs etc. Two benefits, one is as a crush tube, when you swing on your engine bolts you will not run the risk of compressing the timber sections in the transom, also as a means of stopping the ingress of water.
Cut your tubes longer than the thickness of your transom. Drill your holes through the transom with holes 1mm larger than OD of tube. Then run a countersink into each end of the holes through the transom. Wet mix resin and some glue powder and seal hole. Thicken slightly with more glue powder, coat tube and install tube in hole. Thicken remaining resin and over fill the counter sunk holes at either end pushing the glue well into the holes. Over fill each end around tubes. When dry just grind off flush. We only use epoxy resins when working with wood/ply.

Hello old buddy !! and a happy new year to you !! Im sad to hear about you dad a while back , comes to us all eventually ! Im probably further up the line that you as I will be 70 this year .
December 2013 I came back to nz looking at wanting to stay here and settle down but seems it was never meant to happen as I got 3 emails from Chinese companies wanting my knowledge ,services and skills again so will be back there next weekend for another couple of years .
I wouldn't be to sure about the technology thing and what ever ! The American space people will have to take chopsticks next time they go into space or land on the moon at Chinese moon based Mc DONALDS ,at the pace the Chinese are soaking up everyone's technology !! not only the USA . considering they have a pretty big monetary steak in your country might pay you to learn a little bit about china because you could have A CHINESE FAMILY move in next door some time !! its am amazing place and I really enjoy it a lot . Nice people and interesting countryside . they never do things by halves and they think 25 years in advance !! o
So what else is new in you sand box ?? sound like you need a change of doctor and a change of medication because your really no better than you were 10 years ago , just as obnoxious as before , never mind !!everything has an end !
My lovely Chinese lady looks after me well all the time so I have nothing much to complain about anymore, she's much younger than me but I don't mind !!
Speaking of boats Ebbtide has a Chinese owner and now a whopping great brand new boat factory in china !!, they should be starting to produce boats later in the year ! that's going to be interesting that's for sure !! I went and had a look see at the place a while back ,25,000 sqr mtrs trouble is and I laughed there's no one in the company there that knows anything about boats !!only the boss man and hes is dangerous on the water !!, but that's not unusual for china . they'll be taking some of there staff from there US factory to train some of the local Chinese farmers to make new boats !! its really going to be interesting !! you should ask and see if you can get a job there !!around about June they could be opening there doors . Theres another even bigger boat company planned that I been working with and going to be built not far away from Ebbtide and that's the one im interested in .
So while you scratching you nuts and bald spot the world revolves and things happen that you know nothing about , Shake that chip off your shoulder old friend and lets just get on with life and enjoy what's left of it !!Messing round with boats is fun !! the learning never stops ,even after more than 30 years there's always something new happening somewhere ! BUT somethings never change and some problems never go away and just keep reoccurring !!so moved into Composite Forensics , Now that something completely new !!
