ok the single glass layer over the 3/8 core is another interesting thing as well . Nothing has ever been mentioned or posted any where that I can remember of the outer lay up schedule and what it consists of . So does any one know what glass is used to make up skins on the hulls of these boats !!?? WHAT IS THE ACTUAL LAY UP ?????

It looks to be a few layers of 1708 balsa and another few layers of 1708 and the sides seem to be 1708 with that foam core with the little holes in it

If I was going to build a boat and that was the information I got its about as good as a yearly subscription to a Islamic news paper !! So there's no gel coat, no chopped strand matt, and the weight of any of the mat doesn't matter ?? and the rest is just a few layers 1708 both sides ?? how many is a few ?? its like a recipe for grandma's favourite scones !! a bit of this, a bit of that and spoon of that other stuff !!! Ok thank you ever so much !!
I think there might be only one layer of 1708 on the top over the 3/8 balsa !! almost forgot what kind of resin ?? Polyester I presume ??Messing round with boats is fun !! the learning never stops ,even after more than 30 years there's always something new happening somewhere ! The layup schedule of any boat will vary greatly from model to model. Sometimes it will vary from boat to boat. When I was doing warranty repairs on Velocities smaller boats at a dealership, the sides seemed to have 3-4 oz of matt then core mat, (core mat stops print thru) then multiple layers of bi ply. The sides by my estimate would have 2-3 lays of bi ply over the core mat and the bottoms were prob 3 oz of matt then 4 lays of bi ply with maybe 2 more in critical stress areas. (no core mat) Resin was vinyl esther type. They were not heavy, but were built plenty strong. Originally were built by Steve Stepp himself, then regal boats built some. I really liked the 22' OB boats and always wanted one.

Thank you for a sensible answer !! Bi ply you refer to is what ?? also what thickness of core matt would be used ? 2mm or heavier , Please excuse my asking its just I am trying to get my head around the 3/8 core thing that was /is used then !!. I have built some pretty light weight boats in my time but never built anything using the materials' that you guys use !!. Id say that boats built using the materials you use they would never last long in our part of the world !Thank you for you info .

Bi-ply, is the 1708 variety as a general rule. Coremat, 2-3mm would be about right. Tunnells, we know you have a lot of glass experience, but your "people" skills could use some work IMO. I have noticed that some "smart" people I come in contact with in general have a hard time dealing with novices that do not have the knowledge that the highly experienced/educated possess. So in a broad statement I have to say, CHILL OUT MAN, it's only boats were talking about, and they are supposed to bring us together, not make us argue.

All day every day I deal at grass roots level and guys on the floor that known stuff all and understand even less . You and me come from different countries and although we speak English the same word s take on completely different meaning to different people . When I read some of the posts here and on other sites they make absolutely no sense what so ever its total gibberish from where I stand its like shorthand written by foot . For the last I cant remember how many years I been dealing with Asians and English is a compulsory second language for them and there vocabulary and the way they string sentences together is all back to front . As for it being only boats well boats are my life, every day all day boats and boating !!

few more
cut that back cap off
can see where water was getting in, boat also had twins on it, thats why there was so many holes
some rotton balsa core, they laid in about a 1/2 strip of hard pink filler on both sides of the hull that stopped any moisture from getting to the rest of the core
transom stripped and new balsa glassed in
new transom cut out, used 2 pieces of 3/4 marine plywood
transom clamped in
