I like mine a lot, unless I get on a big lake like Guntersville and its a windy day. I have been out there when it was like being in the ocean, and the pucker factor is pretty high. You know where even going slow, you are jumping waves (which is kinda fun) but the water coming over the transom when you are trying to get on the trailer at the ramp SUCKS!!!

my 99 skeeter zx185 ran fastest just bouncing 71-72 on gps with me in it, 175 carbed vmax. boat was stupid out of the factory and even the dealer didnt get why it ran so fast. hull delammed, 2x6 ft piece came off, they took the boat back and put a new 05 hull under it (zx190 hull) which has rear down turned chines to actually slow the hull cause it was so fast, never played with props or the jack plate, and never had a good prop on the new hull. it normally on a good prop would run 68-69 on gps.

Power to Weight?
I hear ya. I put a 250 lb passenger + extra tackle and provisions it slows me at least 5 mph. My best numbers were running my Hoss HPD with just my 120 lb's, a minumum tackle load before I installed my new carpet (I took her out twice last year with a bare floor).
Hey guys I don't remember if anyone's mentioned the Swift yet? I always liked them -had a unique look and would pull good numbers too.Last edited by Allyda; 10-29-2013 at 05:28 AM.

I think there was a guy over on BBC years ago who had an xpress x-19 with a 200 HPDI yammie and it was stupid fast, and he found out for some reason it had a 250 powerhead on it. I could never be that lucky.......

Here are a couple pics of some of my past bassers. Back in the day my family's dealership sold lots of different bass boats. I would always pick one to have built for my demo to tear up the lakes on Saturday mornings at the tournament blast offs. It was good for business to outrun everybody else. The first picture is a 1993 Bumble Bee 180V. The second is a 1996 Stratos 285 Pro XL. The Stratos was a "special layup option" and the bottom was worked by Alan Stinson himself. I ran the same "slightly" modified 2.0L on both of these boats. The Bumble Bee ran a best of 84.1 and the Stratos ran 86.4 on a Stalker radar gun. I sent a ton of 90-100mph boats back to the trailer with these two.

OK, I got the doubt and sarcasm, but these were not the same boats that rolled off the assembly line everyday. I also ran them with no trolling motor or trolling motor batteries and no gear. My roots with Merc go back to 1961 when my Dad first went to Merc school. He became a Merc Master Tech in 1972 and opened his own boat dealership in 1980(when I was 8). So this was not our first go round with building an engine.
If I can find it, I have video of the first day I ran the Stratos. In the video you can see the radar around 83mph. After a year of playing with the setup I hit the 86.4. If I can find the video and figure out how to post it up I will.
The engine started as a 1978 175 block which had good porting and exhaust chest cut, 7 peddle front end, wh-22 carbs, heads cut to 175lbs compression, light flywheel, and the usual solid mounts, open exhaust, and coned lower. The prop was a DAH modified 27SRX and the engine turned it around 6900RPM.
