The OLD Hydra-Sports! 168v and 178v The Ran Very Good In A Straight Line...Slowing Down...Well That Could Get Interesting! If Memory Serves Me, The 168v Was Rated For A 120...We Put 200's On Them! The 178 Was A Little Longer And Drove Better (Slowed Down A Bunch Better) Keep In Mind, This Was WAY Before Low-Water Pick-up Gear Cases Were Around! As Far As Todays FASTEST BASS BOATS...XB02 Has That Covered...And Has Since It Was 1st. Built!!

i am going to try and take it out for a spin this afternon,if time permits.i have to clean all the old fishing junk out of it and change props,it has a 25pitch ballistic on it.the guy i got it from said it was too much prop for it,wouldnt holeshot well at all.im going to put a 24 i have on it and check the jack plate hight,i will probably need to move it too,as there are two 25lb bags of sand in the forward storage compartment that i will remove as well!

Allison on speed hands down. But my Dad's Starfire with an xp 175 was a lot of fun! Mid 60's and just a handful. Everything a youngster could ask for. I settled for an XB2003 it's fast and fishes great

Tidecrafts were a handful. Spitfire with a xr2. I think the larger Tidecraft hull was reconstituted into a Gambler hull.

so took the gambler out yesterday.changed out the prop and moved the jack plate 2in.none of the gauges work so i have no idea what it was turning rpm wise.seat of the pants felt like 70-75mph.that looper really screams!sounds ALOT different than my x flow.the boat is downright evil out of the hole but drove quite well once it was on plane and wide open!did not take chop well at all bounced the nose of the boat everywhere.once the hotfoot came loose from the floor i put it on the trailer and went home.next time i take it out,all that stuff will be fixed!

I guess while talking about hotrod bassboats we outta mention the BassCat Sabre as well. Very respectable runner with a 2.5 on it.
I remember the Tidecraft boat every time I go fishin. Gots one. Get her on pad with the right setup and you got ur hands full. I have a 16 ftr right nowLaser 1550 ...under construction with a serious weight loss
Motor 2.4....undecided on hp yet

The Tidecraft Wildfire was a take off of one of the Hydrostreams. I think the baby Wrangler was also. My dad had a Hustler Outlaw(nother Stream knockoff) that ran 71 or so on a radar gun with 26 chopper on an inline 115 back in 84. Lot if those older bass boats were Stream knockoffs. What about the old Allison 17 ft boat. That thing would fly for its day

I was young so my memory is a little foggy on the exact details but...
My dad's friend Marshall was factory sponsored by BassCat and one year they gave him a new boat with a slate bluish/green 300 Evinrude on it. It was a new special production engine at the time and that thing was fast. I've got a picture somewhere my dad took from the dock of us making a pass and only the prop/lower are in the water.

[QUOTE=1FASTLASER;2532174]Me to. I wasn't aware BCB produced a hull with a 300 hp rating.[/QOUTE]
Marshall did tournaments all over and worked selling boats part-time at the BassCat dealer in Belleville IL. I talked to my dad just now and he is guessing it was around 1998 but i was thinking about 1996. We're working on digging up that picture at both of our houses.
Edit: he referred to the engine as a "Limited edition 300 Evinrude" if that makes any sense.Last edited by PlowTown Missile; 09-15-2013 at 02:48 PM.
