Post your Redneck Engineering (no offense meant)

Working around the shop on different peoples boats you see a lot of stuff that make you say WTF. Just thought it would be kinda interesting to see what you might have run in to. This is a pic of a boat we got in that had two long of a motor on it. This is the jack plate they devised.

SO when you run into something at work or that you come accross take a pic and post it. DONT be searching the internet, post stuff you run into.

well for starters, we prefer "cracker fab". but over and above that my favorite is a vessel on the rocks in key largo someone from cuba rigged, it's an aluminum hull about 15' set up with a flathead 4 cylinder automotive engine complete with a radiator and a shaft out the transom surface planing style close to the bottom. made it 100+ miles and it's infront of a bar/resturant on the rocks as a monument, they even have church services there on sunday mornings, pretty cool. fun out

A few years ago, Greg posted a photo of a Viper with a similar homemade jackplate setup. A pair of square steel tube pieces bolted to the transom, with an inline-six Merc "clamped" to the steel, by only the clamps. It didn't work. The motor fell off and hung by the cables.

http://www.screamandfly.com/album.ph...hmentid=206406. This is an invention that was created by me after my low water pickup fell off and threatened to ruin my weekend. It worked great could even run 65 to 70 mph with it with perfect water pressure.

Nice fix! I used a large tywrap once to hold the top mount of a 15hp Rude tight when the rubber burnt out . No pics though. Gary

Don't have any pics but........many years ago heading out to the phosphate dock in Boca Grande we were getting ready to shove off in a bay liner with a 90 horse force. Motor was loading up bad. Dockside, we diagnosed a hole in the carb float. A bic lighter and some monofilament leader material, we soon "welded" the hole shut on the brass float. A fishing we went.

This is how I got my Viper and Caprices Bug to Seattle. Price on ferry is by the foot. Got a free trailer and cut down to 19'. Max height allowed is 13'. It was 11' when loaded. Once in Seattle, we towed it 4 hrs to the east side. Got lots of looks.Even had the kitchen table strapped on the back!!Ferry workers were impressed!!!New home in Okanogan, Washington.Rental yard lifted boat off for free just because "it was fun"!!
