What prop for a 19' Edge built by Tom Papp

I have just been playing around with my boat and would like to know what anyone thinks about propping it. It is 19ft, has a Merc Racing Optimax XS and is currently spinning a 28. Hole shot is decent and top end is over 90 with two people in it. I am kicking around racing it on the Chain O Lakes in the Blarney Island races which is an 800 foot drag race so hole shot is key. Does anyone have any advice? Good places to buy props? I would appreciate anyone's input.

Are there any particular brands that anyone feels partial to? Any good places to purchase?

    Hi AL,

Glad to see the boat is running strong.
I tried many props on your boat. Give me a call if you want to chat about set-up, my experiences, etc.
For 800 feet, ideally you will need to have the rev limiter raised past 6800 to run competitively. A good 'happy medium' would be a 25-26 pitch and should 'hold-off' the rev limiter for 800 feet or so. I ran a 24 Drag4 and although a blast, not practical and too many RPM, perhaps not even 800 feet.

The best all-around prop is the re-worked 28 on your boat. 94-95 with one person, on limiter about 1/2 mile. Best top end number was with 30 Drag4, 100 MPH on rev limiter at about 3/4 mile.

For drags, have limiter raised and run 23-24 pitch and you will surprise some folks for sure. Use a 25-26 with stock 6800 limiter and still should be fun. Tim at Performance Propellers is a great guy to deal with. He re-did your 28, and several of us have bought new props from him.

Always wear your safety lanyard, and try each prop in controlled condition, no wind - each prop has different characteristics. Your boat likes to fly high, but be careful.
