Will I hate my Drag with lower compression heads?
I've had my Drag (stock 26 cc heads) for a little over a year now & it is a thrill to sit behind the wheel with it. However, it is not only expensive to burn race fuel (I'm mixing 50/50 Sunoco 112 with 93 no eth.) but it is a 2 hour journey to the local race track and they are not open on a regular basis. I have only put about 15 hours on it because of that.
I've heard lower compression heads will disappoint me on holeshot, but what will they do at upper mid and top-end?

Why dont you just run aviation gas..100LL with 26cc. Its not a whole lot more than premium. I payed $5.45 for some last weekend. Any local airport should sell it and all you need is a credit card and help yourself to it.

Even better: mix 93 with toluene. That way you don't expose yourself to lead.

If you lower compression to 140 from 175 you WILL feel a power loss on the bottom....Jay

They become rather unremarkable down low, and lose the snap in the mid even propping it light.

We used to have an O/B Rally that we ran a couple of drag classes at. A friend of mine ran a Merc 300 drag powered boat in the open class (no nitrous) and I think won. He then pulled off the 200+ lb heads and put lower compression heads (I think I wrote the rules to be 150 and < ) on the same motor and also won that class.
Will you feel it? yes. Will it still be fun? Yes.I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.
I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

For the ACES contact or PM (mrcrsr) 772 528 0754 AKA Charlie on the board here. He is a Dealer.
And for all the minority scheptics about ACES. Lets not turn this thread into a ACES thread.

Damn, I've been driving for miles, buying $10 plus per gallon Sunoco 112 at the race track, then driving to find eth. free 93 in the next county for over $4 per gallon for over a year! Mixing 50/50 has cost me about $7 per gallon plus all the fuel I've used to drive all over the place. The local airport wants $5.20 for 100LL self serv. & they are less than 10 miles from me. Education is great, even if over a year late. Thanks
