Ok 2.5 merc is it a 200, 245, 260, 280 the more info you can supply the more info you will get. Any idea what the Apache weighs. Some were very heavy layups.

The Apache scout tends to be a heavier layup 21' so I would recommend changing from the chopper (bow lifter) to more of a 'stern' as well as bow lifting prop. Maybe a thru hub 4 or 3 blade...trophy or trophy plus or turbo lightning etc.

Bringing the thread back to the top as I need some Help also.
I have a 1993 Scout that I replaced all the stingers, bulk heads and transom in the past few years... I finally got the boat back on the water.... I was content with the performance til I actually GPS'd my speed. I am currently running the following..
Engine: 1991 2.5ltr 200 hp offshore
Shaft Length: 25"
Gear Ratio: 1:87
Extension Box: 9"
Jack Plate extension: 4"
Total Set back: 13"
The prop I ran most of the season was.........
23' Laser II, 3-blade: It was kinda crummy out of the hole. Best speed was 53mph @ 5500 rpm
Then I tried some other props a buddy on here has..
20" Turbo, 3-blade: Alot better out of the hole than the 23'. However, top end did not change... 53mph @ 5500rpm.
21" High Five, 5-blade: Awesome out of the hole but, that was it.... Couldn't even try WOT as RPMs were screaming in mid range
Best thus far,
24" Renegade Offshore. 4-blade Raker prop: Great response out of the hole, Best speed 55mph @ 6000rpm
One note, there was no real "seat of the pants" feel when trimming up the jack plate. Keep in mind I did not jack it up all the way.....
Attached are two pics. The first is how far I can jack up the engine off the pad. The second is how far I ran it up while getting the max top speeds stated above...
From reading on other scouts, I feel I am missing at least 5mph.......... Any thoughts or suggestions...........?????Last edited by J bonz; 10-20-2013 at 02:36 PM. Reason: Added last two pics

The props your running are not the best at all.Try a trophy plus, there may be a smidge faster on top end but the trophy is a very good all around prop.A 23 or 25 would be great 25 is my favorite. If the tophy you find has been in the sand dont bother with it, move on to the next.

Bring that motor down 1-2" and hang a trophy on there! Boat needs prob lower to carry that hull.

Thanks guys! Most likely come spring I will try the trophy route... I still cant believe using the Jack plate did not give much if any response to hull ride....

Why the 25" motor? can you even raise until water pressure drops off? Looks low to me but my ideas of engine height are a little skewed.
With the bow up and the water rising at leaves the running surface, the may actually be hitting the lwoer unit something like this. The more setback, the more this is exagerated. Its like a teeter-totter. Bow up = Motor down. That would explain why the jackplate didnt help much. It just didnt get up enough to maybe even get the anti-ventilation plate out of the water. If your dragging that, its killing your speed.

same thought 25" is a lot to lift. how tall is your transum. got to get that plate up an out also ur set back from the jack plate juat hangs the weight farther back means more lift with the plate
