Trip to the Keys was great!! The only rough day was on July 7th (3-4'+ oceanside) and that wasn't all that bad running to the west with the wind/swell at my stern! The rest of the trip was sunshine, great bay water and crystal clear water on the reef line. Did some great snorkeling on Coffins Patch, Sombrero & Looe Key!!! Boat ran awesome...70+ MPH with full tank, 85 degree temps, and all gear!! Here's some pics and video"

Running south from Vaca Cut to 7 Mile Bridge:

Very cool! Are both videos the same or just appear that way??
How did you do w/the shallow water around the hotel down there?? I got to thinkin about it after trying to scare you guys that I should have talked their boat rental guy into going for a ride to show me around and so I could lock in a course on my GPS.
Part of the intimidation factor for me is the water being so clear that you can see the bottom and can't tell (at speed) if it's 2' deep or 10'.
Boat looks great and glad you had a good time. Did the other boat make it down too?
I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

Gary, I studied some Google Maps of the area before we went down. I had no problem with the shallows and never used a GPS. I did use a Chart Plotter App on my I Phone to help find the reefs in the open ocean. It was pretty easy to spot the shoals while running through Florida Bay. I will admit, the first time leaving the little basin behind the Inn was a bit sketchy squeezing between the rocks...after the first time through it was a breeze! I corrected the video above. 1st video should be running east to west towards 7 mile bridge. 2nd video should be running west to east along Grassy Key towards Conch Key. The other Checkmate 2800 never made it down..he had to deal with helping his sister move..One afternoon we hooked up with a red 33' Avanti with twin 300's. We ran side by side at 70MPH from Vaca Cut to the 7 Mile Bridge! The Bay View Inn wound up being a great choice to handle a bigger boat. We looked at many of the other motels I was considering and none of them would have worked as well with the size of the Checkmate and none of them had a ramp worth a damn...
