I would not remove the lip. I remember Darris showing me some info he had from his testing and best I can remember the windshield was designed for some down force. This was a lot of years ago (20 maybe) and my memory is not always that great. He did convince me to leave the widshield on for drag racing.
Hopefull there is some one more current on the windshield info.Ray Neudecker Over The Hill Gang Outboard Racing

Have you run it over 100 with the current setup? If so, what don't you like? There are plenty of guys over on the Allison page that have sanded on the lip with some good and some not so good results. Varying heights, to none at all. There are also size differences from the factory depending on the year. I believe the newer years 96 or 98 + have larger lips than mid to early 90's.
Shouldn't have any problem running well over 100 with the current setup. 1 1/2" above is getting a little high, but with 14.5" of set back, may not be too bad. A good 260/280 is 104-105 in a 2003 bass boat, with the right setup.

Had a 1997 XB2003 with a 260 on it. 1/2" above pad on a 14.5" plate. Coned CLE and a Hoss Hyperdrive 29" prop. Cant remember diameter. A about 90 mph you could really feel the nose start to drop due to all the down force on the console/windshield. I was trimming the heck out of it to get it to release and really get up on the pad. Jim Barnes was there that day and said to take the windshield off. Did that. Went from 97gps to 99.5 gps. Old motor was blowing by pretty bad and always figured the boat had 101-102 in it with that set up. My advice would be to not screw around with the lip!!!
