    Allison GT20

I was driving down the highway last week when a boat caught my eye sitting in a field just off the highway. On my way back I stopped in to talk with the guy that owned it. I was wondering if you guys could give me a rough idea for what it is worth. Now I wasn't able to get to the boat to see what kind of shape the floor, transom, and stringers are in, but I would have to guess that that will all need to be replaced. It did appear to have a hydraulic jack plate on it, but no idea if it works or not.

That's A Lot Of Work But, Jack Barsh Is The Man When It Comes To Rebuilding Those! I'd Offer Him Somewhere Around $750-$1000?

That is about what I was thinking. However he thinks it is worth $2k because it has what he thinks is a $1700 jackplate on it. This guys had a large field with all kinds of boats, but most of it is junk.

I agree with you. That is why I didn't run to the bank to get the money. I think it would be a cool project, but he has to get realistic about what the boat is worth.

With someone in Jack's league doing the work, you'll have $10k in that before you even mount an engine and rig it. The initial investment has to be low, therefore--no more than $500 or so should buy it. As Ziemer said, unbolt the jack and hand it to him with $500 cash. Even if you put $10k in it at Jack's, add a trailer, engine and rigging and you'd still be well under $20k, and you'll have a very nice 85mph+ boat with a vintage appeal and it will all be like new.

500.oo would be fair if he has all the paper work . We did one here in the carport a few years back . Your still going to get some cash tided up in it doing it yourself . Not to mention Man Hours !

If it's a boat you really want , and your up for the project , then get on it !

If you try and justify the cost, you will lose. Trust those of us who ain't been that smart
A project like that has to be something you REALLY want. Thats the bottom line.
I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

I like the idea of doing this boat just because it is the same age as me. I would love to build it with a mild 2.4 or 2.5 and an early style v6 lift off cowl, just to fit the era of the boat.

Saw this boat back in march when I was on a trip. Guy had all kind of boats there. I would think $1000.00 with trailer would be fair. Jeff
