Help matching race engine 49ci - 61ci to 14' mono race boat

Hi Guy's I'm new to the site as well as starting to race. I need help in matching an engine built between 1970 - 1990 to my boat. The class we are running is 49ci to 61ci or 800cc to 1000cc and I need to purchase a motor to suit my 14 foot mono hull. Can anyone help with suggestions on motor and year / model etc?

P.S. If money was no object what would be the ultimate engine/year/model?

Down in Tasmania Greg, however I havn't started yet, it will probably take a full year of planning and purchasing as I don't want to rush in and end up with the wrong setup. I have heard so much as to what to get - Stinger, hustler, 31M, FT, Mod 50 I am so confused as to the difference between them all??

Wow, all OMC's, I would start by getting a good stinger-husler then I would look for something with greater potential if you can get your hands on one and if you do, you can always sale the stinger.

Hi Sharpeye, what would you consider "something with greater potential"? Everyone I have spoken to have mentioned OMC's so I just assume they are the best option? and excuse my ignorance but what exactly is a Mod 50?

The mod 50 was the racing motor of the stinger-husler years so was the FT and the 31M. For a great education on these motors check out the secret of the mod 50 forum by Fast Fred on BOAT RACING FACT FORUM.
