    Yes and Yes, I think?

Not totally sure, but we did some monkeying with Don's recently and all interchanged just fine. Bring it up north if you want and let the crew play with it

Rick im gonna blow the drive there is alot of torque I am running the high5 21+RJ put together it is cupped and et style blades I need more prop but afraid the mc1 will not handle it. What I need is an ss drive but rare and I still might have to change gimble I want to run it. Don has that carb right but the excellerator pump is having some problems might need a sleeve were the plunger rides. Should have seen the 28 1973 magnum with twin 250's it was clean and all original.

I would say get yourself a seatow or towboat membership, and wait 'til it blows. If you keep the oil changed, and maybe add a drive shower it should be fine, that 350 doesnt make that much torque and your boat is light.

Check the driveshaft splines, if I remember the older driveshafts had more splines.

Just talked to the old guy at work, he said the early MR's some had 9?spline but most were 13 as the new Alpha's.
He thinks you will be fine with your MR-1 if its in good shape, run the Merc High Perf gear lube change it every 10hrs and don't come out of the hole under full throtle all the time, no wake jumping.
He reminded me of a few boats around here running the old MR's , bigger boats with lots of HP and they have lived for many years. Bunch of 18' American Eagles with 260's running 21 & 23 High Five to 5000rpm, one with a built 350 turning a 23 through hub Cleaver to over 5000, a 18 Sidewinder with a 383 stroker runs a 25 High Five around 5000.
You can run the whole new style Alpha if you change the input shaft.

Alpha 1 Gen 1 will bolt right up to the MC1 upper, the oil hole in the lower is not used, be sure to use a new O-ring to seal it off, or tap and install a recessed plug.

A Complete gen 1 OD will bolt up to the MC1 but you will need to change the input/yoke shaft, the old/new shafts are different lengths.

A stock 350 shouldn't be any problem, once you get too 300 HP start being nice and do not hammer on it, it should still last many years.

You didn't blow it up already did you? That was a clean case
