The 5.4 Has Had "Different" Issues Since Ford Started Building Them...None Which Ford Will Admit To, Although They Make Tools, Repair Kits, ETC. To Correct Those Issues. I Still Have My 2001 With The 5.4. Good Things...The Beioch Is Fast! Of Corse I've Got Reel Duel Exhaust...Cat Back, K&N Filter System, Edge Programer, Throtle Body Spacer, ETC. I've Also Had To Have Both Heads Repaired...The Early 5.4's Blew The Plugs Out Of The Heads, Breaking The Coil When It Did. Had Both Heads Pulled And Incerts From Ford Installed. Only Issue I Have With It Now Is It LOVES GAS! That's It's Favorite Pass Time Setting In Front Of A Mid-Grade Pump...See Note On Edge Programer...While I Fill-Er-Up! This New Diesel Is Spoiling Me! 18-20 MPG. Verses 10-11 Depending On What Kind Of Mood The 2001 Is In!...But, The 2001 Is PAID FOR!

I have had all kind of problems with my 07 supercrew. Cam phazers noisy, 7 broken plugs, a couple sets of coils. o2 sensor. It would be a great truck if it had a better motor in it(maybe small block Chevy)

Those 5.4 Triton engines were notorious for issues listed above. I had a former friend of mine take one in for a tune up, only to break three of the eight plugs off in the heads. Yeah. When you pull the plugs on these, you'll see that the reach portion of the plug has a line rolled into the plug. Guess where they break? So that means you have to spend the 70 or 80 bucks on the specisl tool to get them out, or pull the heads. I know guys that won't even work on those Triton engines. (points at self)

I can't believe Ford built a throwaway motor. Mine has 149,000 and had a head leaking oil. Pulled it and planed it, no more leak. While it was out of vehicle I cheked the cam bearings and guess what, they don't use bearings. Cam just sits in an aluminum saddle and once that gets chewed up you replace the head and cam. My 5.4 sits in a 3/4 ton 4wd short bed and I can't hardly get 10mpg going downhill. I sure do miss my Powerstroke.

I have an '06 STX SuperCab with the 4.6 V8. Does anyone know if this motor has any of the same problems? Had the truck for a year now. It was due for a plug change and didn't think I had anything to worry about because I thought only the 5.4's had the problem, but-at the Ford dealer I bought the truck from-they broke one plug off in the head. Cost me $700 for a f***ing plug change! Most of my life I told myself I would never buy a Ford truck-but unfortunately this Ford dealership was the only one I could get financing from. Should have just kept my old, paid off Dodge 3/4 ton. (All though I always preferred the Bow Tie).
