    96 merc 250 EFI's ignition coils?

Hi guys, I bought a new to me 31 fountain with twin 1996 mercury 250 EFI's. The motors have around 400 hours on them and compression on all cylinders is between 95 and 100 psi. The issue I'm having is port side motor will not get over 3000 rpm. I replaced the plugs and ran it and found one plug that didn't even look like it fired. I pulled the plugs on starboard side motor and found one that looked the same way. My assumption is the coils are bad so I ordered new coils but have yet to get them on and check. Am I on the right track? Is there something else I should be looking for? would one plug cause it to not reach top RPM? The guys on the hulltruth sent me over here saying there is tons of info on these 3.0's. Thanks!

Its a good bet if you were measuring the winding resistance. When you have two engine like this, a good way to check components is to swap them from one engine to the other, one at a time, and see if the problem follows the component or stays on the same engine.

This is becoming comical...I swapped the stators and now I have spark on all cylinders but no fuel.
