It looks like I have quite the challenge ahead of me.... why didn't I advise him to buy a slower boat? haha
No one is betting on the 'Stream?!?

Hello fellow hot rod boaters, I just got the Charger home on Monday. I don’t have any real good pictures yet, but will post some soon! The previous owner has told me that the boat currently runs around 90 MPH with a 26 prop, but I’m not sure if that’s off the speedo or gps. We won’t know anything forsure until the weather gets warmer and we can get it out on the water!<o></o>

Good catch, Riverrummer, whatever happened to this thread? It's a good one.
I'd bet on the Laser copy, as it will outrun and outhandle the Stream in everything but the really rough stuff. The LTV rose to prominence in '83 and had several years of dominance before the YT hith the scene. The YT never went anywhere. Now it's true that some of that was due to $$ and driving--after all, the LTVs were piloted by guys like Chris Bush (the best of the best, noone better in MVP except Al Stoker), the Drozd brothers, Ray Anderson, Charlie Andersen and others of high caliber. The YT--Roger Meekins, Muscle Boats guys, who else? Don't remember.

Both boats are getting some work done this spring before they hit the water. We had the STV in the lake last night but are still trying to chase down whatever is stopping that bridgeport from turning past 2000 RPM - I think we've narrowed it down to the stator after replacing the switchboxes. I'll be throwing one in it for him tonight. I've got to weld my torque tab on the 235 and then the 'stream will be ready for the water. We should have some initial results in a week or two.
P.S. No its a '78 vette not a ferrari
P.S.S. The sweet chrysler mini van in the other pic is a '96; pulls the hydrostream like a champ.

The STV had it's first run this evening after fixing a faulty stator. Toronto had some freak weather today considering its nearly June and we launched regardless of the fact that we saw brief flakes of snow this morning. The Bridgeport ran well and with two of us on board, half a tank of gas, jackets and gloves we managed several good runs in the low 80's. With me behind the wheel showing my competitor the ropes we managed 84.2 mph @ 6500. My first impression is that the two rigs feel very similar. My seat of the pants dyno indicates the 'stream is currently a bit faster in acceleration but they are close; It also has a bit more in the top end. The STV feels more planted in a chop; I think the rebuilt Valero must have a bit of a weight advantage which works against it when the going gets rough. Interestingly the STV banks a bit in the corners while the YT turns flat - more like a tunnel boat. Both corner quite well at speed and are stable when airing out. It looks like the underdog is out front for now.

this is weird but I have the exact same setup in as much as I own an 84 LTV and my neighbor has the Valero. The LTV is going to be faster in a straight line and corner better than the Stream and I would say that I am biased towards the hydrostream having owned many of them. in the rough I would agree the LTV is not as good and to get good numbers out of it you have to belly the boat but it is a better all around performer. I think My Laser 380 could take both hulls in the rough stuff to be honest.

Great thread. You guys are going to have a blast. I think I lean toward the LTV also. I raced one in ModVP and loved it. I can't believe John left me off his list. I beat Charlie Anderson once....I think..

McMopar is becoming more comfortable with his rig as he has been taking it out a few times a week to practice driving. So far he has managed 85.6 MPH @ 6500-6600 RPM and is getting closer and closer to my personal best of 89. We have yet to find a weekend where we are both free to run them side by side; we live a few hours apart.
