Mercury racing line-up thru the years

Is there a place were i can find the Mercury racing line-up thru the years?
Or can you help me to indentify a merc V6 race engine, i don't have to much details.
I only have seen that the cowling decals look like 1986 models (standard mercury engines).
It has a special mid section and a gearcase without shifting.

If the heads are two piece, that makes it a 2.4.Now open the carbs and Look down the throat, are the reeds running up and down or side to side and look on the cyl head and see if there is a 3 3/8 or 3 1/8 and see what is stamped on the top of the carb flange.

Well here's my best guess at what you are looking at, 76-82----2.0 or 2.4 liter 175 or 200hp the very best it might be would be is a 225.would need to see the head bolt pattern, and know the bore size to tell for sure.So far it does not sound like a "race motor"in fact if it is the first generation v6 it is a good one to stay away from because of the head bolts pulling the cylinders out of round.Really need more info to be accurate.Good luck---------just reread or post,I did not pickup on the midsection and gear case info,I'm getting old,now really going to need pics.could be any number of things including a race motor.sorry for the mis info
