Will a 10HP get a Voo Doo Mini up on plane?
I was looking at a Hydrostream VooDoo Mini but my 10year old son & 12year old daughter are the drivers. Can I power it with a 10HP Johnson until they are a little older? A 35HP might be too much (unsafe) until they get a little more experience/control. Are there any owners out there that have done something similar on this little boat?

9.9 should do it pretty easy, I've seen them plane 3 fat fisherbeerman and their beer in a 12 foot boat. A 15 would be better.

Oh yeah a 9.9 should do well on that.

That would be an interesting experiment actually...I tend to think that it won't only because unlike the 12' tiny the voodoo has a pretty deep vee and tends to put the nose up getting on plane. Now, with the light weight of a 12yo and the light 9.9 then maybe it won't be an issue...definitely worth a shot. I bought my full size voodoo new when I was 14...so even if the 9.9 isn't quite there she's almost to an age where she can handle a slightly larger motor.

I had an 8' Whooster Hellion with a 9.9 to start with. Two people (kids) we would have to lean over the front to get it to plane. But it sat pretty low in the water- pretty narrow. Also had the fuel tank in the back. I updated it with a 15hp carb and it was no problem with two and by myself it would jump out on plane very well.

I think you could even go with a smaller motor than that to start. I have a 12' inflatable with a 4hp Mercury and that thing goes pretty fast with myself and my two kids in it.

40 HP and a very low pitch prop. They will get on a plane quickly but not go very fast.

I had a Nissan 70 on my old Voo Doo, With a small aluminum prop it would go about 30 mph on the rev limiter. Not too scary for a kid.
