Thanks for the input guys; looks like i wasn't too far off with my initial thought of a 30 - 32" ET.
Maybe I'll hold off on those heads until i look into it more.

I'm watching this one too. I will be rigging my Vasarette YT as soon as some parts come back from power coating. I'm running a 2.4L 200 with cut heads and reeds.

Update.
Hydraulic Steering installed and solid mounts - love it!
Torque Tab welded on and carrier pinned. The GF and I took it out for a test run earlier this week. The Lightning ET came on plane in a similar fashion to the chopper with maybe a bit more slip - but fine. It throws quite a bit more water behind the boat when cruising. Foot to the floor from 60 MPH - it shoots a massive rooster tail and we accelerate up to about 75MPH.... motor revs past my comfort zone to 6700 and I let off. Nursing it up to speed got us to 80MPH at 3/4 throttle around 6k, anymore and it would slip. The chopper in comparison hooks like glue and throws the boat forward much more aggressively; it's slip numbers are around 7% where as this ET is much, much worse. My setup is the same as the chopper at around 1.5" above the pad. Perhaps the ET likes to be run a bit lower in the water? I guess I'll have to get out again soon and play with engine height.1989 21' Skater - twin 2.5s

Get a 29 SRX and have it worked by DAH. Make sure your steering has zero play and you have solid mounts. That boat will handle 90 plus it's all in setup. The higher you can jack it and keep water psi the better it will handle. I had a Valero with a 225 Vindicator that did 86 but I had a 30 gallon tank in the rear and didn't want to relocate weight so I switched to a Merc PM 225 and it was a much better handling boat capable of mid 90s driving solo. If you insist on staying with the OMC make sure everything has zero play and consider losing weight in the rear or redistributing it. Hyd jack for max running height....
30 ET was my next best prop. I can't believe you are spinning 6700 with a 32 must be all slip. Probably should do an SRX like I said and have DAH pitch it up to a 30 or perhaps even a bit more. Run it first stock and tell Hume your speed RPMS and he will do his magic. I just had him do a chopper for me for my Starflite. As usual instant 5 mph. He never fails me.
I never tried a cleaver that worked well always seamed to throw too much rooster/slip and not go anywhere. I think you need to be making 300+ hp for a cleaver o work on a ValeroLast edited by at100plus; 06-08-2013 at 09:14 AM.

What a Prop!
I took the boat out for a solo run last night with the new ET. I discovered it requires an engine height about .25" lower than my chopper or it slips badly; I presume this is because there is less blade area. Previously with the 28 chopper the boat would run 86 every time out with my personal best being 89 - but it was a harry ride and it felt like I was standing the boat on its tail. The ET in contrast doesn’thave the bow lift of the chopper…this also means it doesn’t dig the stern to achieve that. The result is astonishing. First pass – 90MPH GPS! Second pass – 90 again! The acceleration might even be better even though this prop has 4” more pitch. It feels like the whole boat is lifting level to water; the angle of attack is basically neutral and the thing feels much, much safer. I tweaked the engine height again (I have a manual jack plate) and I achieved 91.1 MPH. Did a second pass with both my GPS speedo and I-Phone recording the top speed; 91 again. I haven’t even bothered yet to file a few burrs off the prop or send it to my guy so he can check it /work his magic.
To say I’m impressed with what the old girl can do is an understatement. To put things in perspective my power head is from 1981 and is bone stock. Stock porting, stock jets, and it even still has - for the moment the crappy low compression bathtub heads. Mission accomplished.Last edited by Fullthrottleguy; 06-13-2013 at 02:53 PM.

Just picked up a 34" Cleaver and are going to give it a whirl this week. Then send out whatever prop works best to have it fine tuned for my rig and sell the other.

The cleaver went 93 MPH @ 6000 RPM... likely would have pulled to 6200 which would be about 95 if I had more than just 1/4 mile sections of straights in the river to play with before I have to let off and turn. I think I like the ET more; its accelerates and planes much better. If I can get it worked slightly to get the slip #'s down a bit I'm sure it will be perfect for this setup. But for now I've got a piston to replace.

Not only is that incredible speed for that setup. It's actually hard to believe. Even if that boat was comp weight no interior. I'd honestly have to see it to believe it but if its true kudos to you you must really have the magic combo in your setup.

If you have .09% slip and a 1.87 ratio 94 is what you should be doing. I just can't believe that motor makes enough power to turn 6k in such a short distance no less, and my experience with cleavers on a YT is lots of slip.

Cleavers always worked best for top speed when I had a YT. The sponsons are deeper than the pad so the YT likes the tail lift of a cleaver...IMO.

Agreed but I never saw a cleaver work well on a YT with less than 240 hp
