I took a stab at this based on lengths starting at 17ft going up to 30ft for single outboard boats. The list gets pretty long when you include all boat types running current production motors (4-stroke, V8's, Sho's, super Sho's). 21 and 22 foot boats are packed with big runners. You have to go nearly 20 boats deep in the 21ft category before you see a "SOB" show up. That is based on the current list from this thread. That is just boats and numbers I have seen posted on S&F. Liberator, Allison, Bullet, Ballistic, and a few others all pile up in the 21' category and that is limiting them to just one model. I now get why this is a limited subset.

Good name for the new thread. WavetoWave can write it up like his blog .... and RBT can check the data.

Make it 25-30 feet or maybe even 35. This thread has way to much good info based on the original poster 302sport's questions on Page 1 and 2 to change now. Would be cool to see the new thread grow for 25-35 foot class.

Add Phantom's new 30 OB below while you two guys are at it.

I think 24-35, lol the 25-30 would leave the fastest one out again.

It would be interesting to see how the Tuff 21 is doing speed wise with the 300 R tall boy on the back.

The Merc V8 topped off with oil and using the 3 ram mid and sporty weighs 561 lbs, so 56 pounds heavier than a 300XS smoker.

And some interesting comments on rough water ...........

The boats are set up to run consistently and properly in real waters which kevin has tested over and over again to feel there going to perform good...If you boat in a puddle in the middle of no where with no boat wakes thats always flat yeah maybe a couple mph can be had but the boats gonna want to peel off the water the second a ripple comes along....

as for a tuff 21 In my opinion that boat aint **** compared to a 22 progression. There build process and fit and finish is stellar and the boat is beautiful BUT the bottom design IS NOT the same as a 21 linder bottom or a 22 progression, activator ETC and doesnt work as well unless your boating in a PUDDLE with no changing water conditions...the one that was here on long island was owned and rigged/setup by the fastest guys around and never did anything impressive because it simply couldnt handle the waters the way the 21-22 standard pad bottomed boats can.

The title of the thread is fastest SOB, not fastest SOB as set up for rough water. I don’t doubt that the optimum set back for top end is not the best for rough water. Of course that’s where ballast tanks come in.

From my own experience my 23 degree dead rise SS2000 runs a lot better in rough water with 4 people than with just me. The 21 Tuff that Mark let me drive was in another league in the rough, as it should be.

Rotorhead had what may be the first Tuff around 2003. It was one of the first. His boat is not a light weight hull and he ran it hard in big water in Lake Simcoe. And he ran it over 100 in flat water with a 300X

I don’t know anything about Progressions. I do know a Tuff can run in big water

Correct with a 22.5* hull and a sharp angle of attack the Tuff does just fine in the snotty stuff. The only downfall is the fact that it is light I guess, which means it is uncomfortable for the driver but would likely win races with the right "guy" behind the wheel. I liken it to a normal person thinking a Buick is better around a rough race coarse because they fell less shock, albeit moving at the speed of smell.

Simply read the first two pages of this thread and then kindly revise your statement about rough water.

Crystal clear what the original poster was asking about.

I’ll make a comment about the poster, he is the one boating in a PUDDLE, GSB isn’t near as rough as the Great Lakes. As any real offshore racer where the rough water is. Also consider the poster location, he’s a typical too proud to even think someone or something could best them.
