I'm always more impressed by the boats running with modest power. There's a Tuff 21 with a 150 G2 that does 72 MPH. A 250 ProXS on a 24', I'm sure is really fast. Allison's with 150-200s that run 80-90. Love the efficiency.
And the 300R as impressive as it is, is very heavy and top heavy, it does effect handling.
The original Challenger ran great with a 175 Merc. I'd love to see more people run the new V6 fourstroke. The 225 is a bit of a sleeper. I still believe Merc should've made the ProXS 200 and 225 as a V6, as well as a 225 or 250 R V6. A V8 200 HP makes zero sense to me.

Many of these boats are longer than their running surfaces.
Curious if taking the running surface length into account would that change some of the perception of the weight and speed of these boats?2023 Progression 22 w/ 2015 Mercury 300XS. 2018 Kawasaki Ultra LX. 1969 Hustler Wildcat. 1985 Hydrostream Vegas XT. Length does help with balance with the heavier motors. And for
running surface and notches… this “list” is goofy/biased as for some reason it is based on a set of rules for an inconsequential racing class that has no influence on 99% of the worlds purchasing decisions. Had this list been based on single engine outboard vee bottoms the list would be very different.Last edited by RBT; 01-21-2022 at 09:18 AM.

List needs to be updated
2021 Predator V21 300X 100MPH
About 4 of these have been produced and I'm sure the next few will have 4 strokes on them...

The CL length of the Allison is only 19' not that it takes anything away from how great the boat is but ultimately you are only running on 19' and that likely saves a bit of weight also.
I agree that this list is somewhat "goofy/biased", the Allison isn't known for its rough water prowess and the checkmates were removed for that reason.
Maybe the list should be rewritten for all SOB boats where the speed can be verified and leave it at that. Let the reader decide if a 24 Tuff is on par/in the same class with an Allison.2023 Progression 22 w/ 2015 Mercury 300XS. 2018 Kawasaki Ultra LX. 1969 Hustler Wildcat. 1985 Hydrostream Vegas XT. ......
If there was no rough water requirement and you stick to under 24', Allison would probably take all 5 top slots lol. James Gang (an Elder) below .... 132
The S&F Elders also went back and forth and concluded that Checkmates would rattle apart on rough water if I recall. Plenty of banter on that.
