You're doing the same thing, just in a different way. Or maybe the same way since we have absolutely no idea what was changed in that block, plate and mid to make it work.

You did notice the complete absence of drain holes in that cowl plate to allow water from the block into the plate, correct?

That's also an old version of the plate. They've apparently updated it (post #9) > http://www.screamandfly.com/showthre...rped-baseplate

You guys also need to be careful comparing anything opti with regular motors. The air compressor on an Optimax takes a pretty large volume of water and changes flow outside of what's "normal" to us.

I've been watching this thread since I'm doing something similar, but with a flat plate on a 12" mid. Interesting reading for sure.

And I think there's a good chance the spent water from the compressor is going into the mid to cool the tuner and pump.

Yep. This is the best illustration I could find from a 2.5XS (I don't even know what that is) but it seems to be configured similar to the 200XS

Nothing through the exhaust plate, spent cooling water is plumbed into the exhaust plate by hoses and fittings. This is exactly the same as what we discussed.

I'll be starting litigation against Mercury on Monday for stealing our idea. So there.

I parted out a 2.5xs and it's as that shows, the stats dump into the mid and the compressor dump is plumbed to the tell-tale in the rubber exhaust boot at the rear of the motor. The 2.5xs plate is a one year part that adapts a 2.5 to a 3L midsection that uses a 3L fishing motor cowl with no baseplate, though, and it does have holes in it to dump water on the front of the tuner. Can't confuse the two motors they're totally different from the powerhead down.

What we really need is an illustration just like that for a 200xs that uses an alien cowling.

The 200XS uses the same illustration minus the exhaust plate. I didn't compare all the part numbers but I'm pretty they are mostly the same.

My .02 ...... I think you should lower the focus on the 200XS Opti and perhaps think of looking at a 225X plate.

The EFI 225X SS 15" came stock from the factory with a 1 piece that used poppet and thermostats. I think, but I'm not 100% sure, that you can still buy a new one from Mercury although I believe there are very few left. I give you credit for keeping at it.

Things like this are exactly why I hate Merc.

Exactly. The 2.5xs is a completely different setup. Along with the adapter being totally different, they run a 3L lower unit and water pump which put out a ton more water volume.

ID:	382026Here is a picture of a 200xs plate.

As you can see this adapter is different than the picture at the merc factory. Merc is def not consistent. Notice the fitting at the rear. Spent water out of the t stats gets dumped here. Seems like they changed this. No fitting in the adapter in pic at merc factory.

Anyway this person also ran his 200xs block on a 260 adapter with 20"mid. Only thing he changed is getting water to the compressor. No other changes he said.

Then the 200XS and the 225X must have differences in the block drains to compensate. From what I can see, one uses the newer high volume water pump and the other uses the older high pressure pump to further complicate things.

I still have a strong belief in blocking the floor of the 1 pc plate and adding fittings to cool the tuner and water pump. This method is the only way I can see to closely mimic the a 2 pc plate.

For the guy who just stuck a 200XS on a 260 plate and it worked with no other changes except for some fittings for the compressor, I'm here to tell ya, he's the luckiest son of a bitch on planet earth, and pretty much proves the block difference theory to me.
