Viper resto-mod
I have finally made time to get started on my Hydrostream viper rebuild. My plan is to make a lake racer out of it, possible drag racer. I got started in September and will post progress.

With the hull turned over, The jig was built to match the strakes & hull design. Since the hull is well supported, there was no problem seperating the hull and deck.

All the original wood is now gone. I would have to say that there was probably 90% good wood in this hull, but the wet stuff was in all the wrong places.

I, like , and to tell you the truth you really could have done everything on the bench ( glassing ) prior to tabbing everything in ( transom ) along the perimitter of the transom to the hull using mutable layers of fabric staggered which would have saved you a little more time with less work . but non the less L@@king g@@d just my 2 cents.

When the transom board was put in, a backer board was used to keep everything square and tight. It was also used to screw the jig, hull and new transom board together. It'll get unscrewed and released after the deck gets reattached. This way it should all stay as square as it originally was. I've read too many articles about ill handling hulls that were seperated at time of recore. From my experience, handling and speed all start at the bottom!
The stringers had the be scarfed together to get the length that was needed. They will get glassed to the hull and the transom board. The bow eye mount also got replaced and glassed in.

The knees of the stringers will not only be glassed to the transom board, they are also locked in both laterally and vertically by a bulkhead. The bulkhead will also serve as a support to glass the splashwell into.

Proprider , the pics you show of the stringers having a scarf joint is not a scarf joint because the scarf may run vertically or horizontally at an angle , and just curious why did you not fully in -capsulate everything in ( glassing ) all exposed wood other then just tabbing everything in ?

This is as far as i've gotten, to date. The hull and pad surfaces are getting additional glass to strengthen and straightened, before the balsa core goes down.

I'm not sure what your saying about the scarf joint? I cut then at a 30 degree angle and glued them together. all the grains and plys matched together.Everything except for the transom board was encapsulated. If you look at the stringers on the floor. One is naked, one is encapsulated and the other being scuffed up before being tabbed into place.

Hey guy , first off if i am wrong i apologize and with that in mind , post # 5 pic number # 2 showing the stringers to get the length that was needed more or less......looks like a butt joint opposed to a scarf .........just because the way it looks in your pics , but non the less you are doing a very nice job and all the better if you are fully incapsulating all bare wood , and have a safe and happy holiday .
