Thread: Uprated E-Tec reeds?

Removing the airbox does make the motor much louder. We've found very little gain from removing it. The Velocity stacks increase the consistancy of airflow, with debatable results. With that being said, I do run my race Etecs without the air box and remove all the sound detonation foam and splash shield. You can ramp a factory mid with a snout that will give you the gains dzalj1 speaks of. I have a Taylor mid setup also. I personally like the factory 3.0 cut down mid with the snout cause of the weight savings.

Cool I'll give it a go with no airbox before I fit the Carson reeds that are on their way across the Atlantic. I've got a superb fabricator/welder sponsoring the boat so will have a chat with him about making a snout without losing strength from the mid. No noise restrictions over here, and I need to drown out quite a few Mercs!

Here is the snout added to a stock 3.0 mid cut down to 16". This is the current setup on the race boat. Very light.

Here is the Wayne Taylor 16" Mid with the Etec Adapter Plate. Fast track trim.

That 3.0 mid looks awesome, thanks! Is that a genuine carbon cowl? My old man is a GRP fabricator, might have a chat with him about making a mould off mine and banging out some lightweight jobbies

Speed jr. : any figures on the weight savings? How lighter with the stock 20" converted to a 16" and how much with the taylor mid?
Thanks!

do the 3.0 mids fit the 3.3 powerhead?

i do believe all mids are the same... well i have cut down many and yea mixed power heads loopers/xflows. i dont know how much lighter exactly they are cut down comparing to Wayne Taylor but by hand... not that different as i have felt both. and i like to still say everything is genuine still i also use the fastrak trim without modding also..

and what i would love to do is cut down a 60 degree midsection being the smooth rounded back and weld the top half a standard mid as the pans/shroud would cover it... but would be different again. and weld up a smooth rounded offshore snout like the 280 mercs.... actually might consider my own thought now in practalitty

Very cool!! Looks like my powerhead is getting pulled again this winter
What's the Fastrak trim?
-

its just the standard internal trim that comes with the john/rude introduced in 1991-2??? thats what there called anyway. a much better improved trim/tilt system than the old skewl design.. one big ass pin on the bottom instead of 3 bolts on each side of the clamp bracket holding the complete assembly together
