hydrostrem venom
Been hanging around for awhile but this is my first post.
Been boating for over 45 years and have run outboards, jets, i/o's, direct drives.
One of my previous boats was a Hydrostream/Canadian Edition v-king with a 200 merc. The boat was a lot of fun but the wife hated it. The chine walking made her very nervous so I sold it a number of years ago. Now I'm getting the itch to get another boat and really love the look of the Hydrostream Venom. Since it's a bit bigger and a bit more stable it will also handle Lake Ontario water a bit better on good days.
Getting to the point of my post. I see a number of used hulls available and a few complete rigs available. The majority are running 2.5 efi mercs. Some I have seen with the 3.2 300 hp merc. In general which is the better combination on this hull for all around driveability not just top end speed. Although I am curious as to which is the faster combination. I will not be racing the boat but using it to just go out and play around, enjoy the sun, and do some swimming.
Thanks in advance.

2.5, you can really tell the weight of the xs back there, but it the hull handles it very well. I think a 200xs with the 8000 rpm limiter would be the ideal ticket on one.

Lake Ontario? A Venom would likely be a lot better than your old Vking, but it's still a very small boat for that lake. SOB?

Lake ontario can be very tricky. I have to go out early of late and it's best when the wind is out of the south. A larger hull would be a much better choice 25-35 ft but I have no interest in a boat that big. Almost kited the v-king when I hit a swell doing about 70. The Mirage I had was even worse because it would stuff a sponson thru the wave and the result was like getting hit with a board across the face.
The finger lakes near by have speed limits on them so that takes the fun out of things.
20 to 22 feet is a nice size for what I'm interested in doing. Looking for a good ride that's quick and fun but really not interested in the 110 and up speed range since there would not be many opportunities to see that kind of speed without getting killed.

21 Tuff or US equivalent? I drove a Tuff briefly once and it was way better over rollers than my SS2000.

I love my challenger and it loves big water and does 83 ... Had a vector before it .... With the challenger I'm not worried about getting stuck in big water..

I would contact SpeedJR on here, he has had 2 venoms, both with 3.4liter Etecs, and can give you their capabilities on our Busy ass waterway.....Also, Bottoms Up Boat Repair Billy sells the Hydrostreams and has a Killer Used one and a Brand New one....847-587-5353 is his #.....

Id go with this as after the warranty it can be altered,or grab one used. A Large Etec applied to a Venom is made for one thing if it is above a 150ho. Unless you have a BRP connection your not going to run like Speed Jr or Sr. Even after that connection they will not release a motor that can ever be altered with out a large amount of money and new EPA laws.
I have a bass cle 175 on the 2008 now and I love it. Great on gas anyone can drive it, plenty of storage and my 2008 is a convertable not with slide track seats but itis available. Eight bolts later you go from center steer to pleasure. If you would like to move beyond that the model has won championships.
During our run yesterday in two minutes I taught my nephew how to drive. He went to 6 k with no issue. I can drive it with no hands up to 4500 rpms.
The Venom really is the most universal sob on the market. Run glass or pound over the rough stuff.

Love the yellow! Very sharp good looking boat.
I was thinking about the difficulity of getting in and out of it but the reality is that it's not that type of boat. I had Tige ski boats for the water activites.

Seneca is about 2 hrs away from me. Never did any boating there. Been on Keuka a few times. Canandaigua, Honeoye, Conesus are closer and Ontario is 5 minutes down the road.
