Top main bearing feeder hose leak down ?

Should the hose that runs from the bottom of the block to the top main bearing stay full when the motor is off?

I have about 2" of fuel/oil in the hose when I let it sit over night.

When it is idleing, out of gear, it doesn't seem to travel up much at all, but when I put it in gear, it travels up quite nicely to the top....

It also will travel up if I partly cover the bottom carbs with my hand....

Also, when there is a little standing fuel/oil in the bottom of the hose, I can pinch the hose, and the mixture will slightly travel downwards, until I let the hose go, then it will move back up to where it was before....

Is this normal, or should the hose stay full when it sits over night ?

The bottom fitting is a check valve and is suppose to let fluid pass through only 1 way. It could be bad but normally the hose doesn't always stay full of liquid. It seems to be pushed up the tube at different times and amounts. The check valve may be leaking down.

It does travel upwards when I am idling in gear, so I can assume that it is doing its job, ? ...... but its next to impossible to watch when I am under way......

I can rev up a little when I am in neutral, and it "tries" to move upwards....but it seems to move up more when I let off from the rev....

I did take the top of the hose off, and got some fuel/oil to squirt out of the hose.....

Should be fine. It doesn't take a lot of mixture to lubricate the bearing. It gets some from the crankcase that by-passes the sealing ring as well.

John: crank case vaccum/pressure changes as the engine revs up and lowers. You'll be fine. I know Halloween is comming up but stop chasing Ghosts.

The oil you see in the lower part of the line when motor is off is confirming bottom check is holding..

Part of my older crank problem may have been that I thought the top was supposed to be a check valve too.....unless I am wrong, the top barb is NOT supposed to be a check valve....but an open barb......(please correct me if I'm wrong)

Bottom valve is a check valve so oil will not flow back into engine, top one is just an open fitting so oil can flow to top main bearing. Jim
