It has been a work in progress now for a while, this was the 3rd and best season so far. Now it is coming apart to change out the mids and lowers to shorts. I have both pre 72 short mids, 1 XS lower and another short lower, I would really like to find another XS lower at an affordable price. As far as the bolts go, yes just 2 thru the trim brackets holding them down, stress is on the clamps. The plates are 1/8 in stainless, not aluminum and a bitch to drill. any suggestions for punching out more holes is appreciated when the short mids are dialed in for the right height. Thanks everyone for all the encouragement to make this thing come together.

Stainless is simple tough. Machine shop with a punch press easy, at home? Drill press and slower speed and a lot of pressure. Hand drilling never easy!

yes, stab the throttles and it is game on. Steering is great with the hydraulic system, of course does turn one way a lot easier than the other but no torque when running straight, one handed driving on the wheel. 3rd Gen what are you building?

Is it common to run 10 bolt powerheads on 8 bolt mids? I've got a short 8 bolt mid that had a 10 bolt plate from a 1350 when I bought it. It had cutouts where the rear 2 studs would have been.

I personally have not heard of anyone doing that. I can't imagine it would work because the exhaust and water passages were all different. But I could be wrong.

The baseplate matches the powerhead, everything under it is the same. To use the 8 bolt mid under a 10 bolt powerhead, use the baseplate that belongs with the powerhead. You may have to use the 10 bolt lower cowl as well.
