Hydrostream Comp Hulls
Hello- I am new to Scream n' Fly. I drag raced Hydrostream Comp Vectors back in the 80's.
What I am hoping to find info on are the location of the molds that the Comp Vector and the Comp V-King came from. There are rumors that Pipkorn destroyed the molds 'because they were fragile and in disrepair'. I find this hard to believe, and had heard somewhere(?) that the hulls were produced in Canada after Pipkorn had disconnected from the brand.
Could someone of knowledge please shed some accurate info regarding this query?
Thanks in advance!
tim

Hey Tim.. you might want to talk with bottomsup on here about the molds. Pretty sure they were destroyed per agreement. Small world, I;m originally from Saginaw and up in Tawas now.

Hey Capt., thanks!... Yeah, it's a small world. I have heard that so and so has the molds and I have heard they were destroyed. I have seen some HS knock offs out there that had to come from the OEM molds. Who in there right mind would build molds from scratch for limited builds?... I sent an email to the 'new' Hydrostream company, but haven't heard anything back yet. I'll give 'bottomsup' a holler.
Thanks again!... Oh yeah, I like and with the 'GTFO' tag... I am probably the only one in BC who agrees with that!...hehehe...

Vector molds are gone. I do have one un touched plug from it ready to mold. that would take ten boats ordered.
Sorry

If you drove a new Venom you'd never again think about a Vector.

Are they still making the Venom?... I couldn't see from the site where they offer a light lay up Comp model. I drink my beer in the house, not in the boat, so I don't need a fancy interior- when on the water, there is but one objective. That being to go Mach2 with my hair on fire!

The V-King hull mold is down the road from me at Extreme Paint. (the actual hydrostream mold) The last hull that was in the mold is there too, from 1991. Unfortunately, there is no deck mold. Same story with the HST.
If there were enough interest, I'm sure a redesigned comp deck mold could be built. Imagine if there were a deck similar to the venom or like Chet's V-king was...wow.
That said, a Venom is the answer..those things are badass....The Reverend, (Cedar Machine Service on Facebook)

Does it have to be an original Hydrostream Viking mold or does a pull off of a perfect Viking count?

Hi Tim:
I replied with this message to your FB message:
There were never any special "comp" molds for the Vector and V-King. The comp boats were built from the same molds as the production boats. I don't know what happened to the original molds. When I was at HydroStream, in late '89 we decided not to build Vectors anymore because the molds were in such bad shape from many years and years of building parts out of them, that each boat required over 10 hours of rework to make them saleable after pulling them from the molds.
The V-King was not in that bad shape so we still built a lot of those. John Spaeth in Canada has a set of V-king molds that originally were built at HydroStream in the early 1980s. He builds V-kings all the time from these molds and his boats are literally perfect. He is a master craftsman and does an awesome job.
As those above have mentioned, if you want a vintage-appearing and very well built Viking/V-king, call John Spaeth. His are built far better than the best originals ever were. If you want to go fast with much better control and faster than a Viking could go "safely", buy a Venom. Now that Chub Bryant is building them, I would not heistate to buy one.

Thanks, John. I knew I could get the correct info from you. It looks like all of my questions have been answered here. Apparently whoever is building the Venom hull is offering it in a light lay up Comp version (per 'Speed Jr's' post).
A hearty thanks to all who have helped getting me pointed in the right direction.
