Attwood Fender Cleat vs Mushroom Cleat

I have a 1988 Laser LTV, it's never had cleats on since it was bought new in 1989. There isn't much room for a cleats on the sides of the boat, so I'm looking for something small. I don't tie off for long periods or in rough conditions, and I've seen a few guys on the lake with mushroom cleats that say they's never had issues with them not being strong enough. The Attwood Fender Cleat is a cleaner look to me has anyone used them and are they as strong as the aluminum mushroom cleats?

Do you want to tie off , or just hang bumpers ?
I tie off to the steering wheel , and a wing plate , and if I use bumpers , they have a small rope attached to them with a hook , that hooks to the inside of the gunnel and hangs over the side of the boat .

I'm looking for something I can tie off to at the courtesy dock and the fuel dock. Up until now we've tied off to the steering wheel and the ski pylon when we have it on the boat.

The mushroom type I've seen are at Rex Marine and Eddie Marine.

I use push pin cleats. You can keep your rope and bumpers tied to the pin, and just insert the pin into the base (mounted on the boat) when you want to tie up.
1/4 are only good for short tie ups in calm water or bumpers. 3/8 are good for tying up. Here is one company that sells them... there are many others with slightly different styles http://www.danamarineproducts.com/QuickPinCleats.htm

i just looked at both of them,I like the look of the ATTwood cleat better,but I'm just lookin for something to tie the bumper on in front of the windshield

What I've noticed is that the boats I've been in with pop up cleats is that they rattle

Good point! The mushroom cleats are spring loaded, I wonder if they rattle also?

I have had the anodized mushrooms from Rex Marine http://shopping.rexmar.com/Merchant2...cleatsmushroom 90% of my time is spent in salt water. After 10+ years, they still look like new, no issues with the finish. Mine are mounted midship, use them mainly for fenders, and short term tie up at the dock. They are more then strong enough to tie up with, and I have anchored from them in 1-2 knots of current (and the hull sideways to the current) w/o issue.

They do not rattle (the spring is strong enough to always keep them retracted under tension.

I also have the Accon pop up as my bow cleat. http://shopping.rexmar.com/Merchant2...de=cleatspopup A well made pop up, it does not rattle when it's down, but can rattle when it up (But I never hear it over the motor)

Have the Whitecap bluewater push-up cleats in the stern http://www.cheaperthandirt.net/produ...FUmd4AodOCwAbw no where near the quality of the Accon, you get what you pay for. Can rattle down or up

Whatever you install, remember to fab and use a big (big!) back up plate. The ones they supply are way to small. Don't want a nice pull through in the deck if a rogue wave comes while you're tied up.

thats the plan but I'm only gonna use them for bumpers, I use swim tube cut up the middle and slide them on the wings for back bumpers
