    no tach or charge/omc intruder

my buddies 150 intruder wasnt charging the battery and tach didnt work, and he was told by a shop the regulator which had obvious over heat damage was bad. so we got one from a guy on here and replaced it and still nothing. it runs ok it just shows 12.3 or so volts off, idling, or revving. i checked voltage at red wire from stator and it was about 9 volts. is there a real diagnoses we could follow to test stator and regulator or do we need to get the shop manual. thanks guys

test your ac voltage from the stator at the two yellow leads when the engine is running. also you can disconnect the two yellows and do an ohm test the ohm test should be between 0.12 _+ 0.07.
also test stator for a grounded condition dis connect both yellows and connect ohm meter one at a time to ground the resistance should read very high if not it is grounding. and the regulator is hard to check you can do a running output test on it though wiring an ammeter in series with the red lead coming off the reg to show its charging output.
if all tests show ok and you check all your connections and still no charge i wouldnt be surprised if you got a bad new reg happens a few times a year to people.
one lest test connect your meter black lead to ground take the gray lead off the regulator (tach) and check for voltage on the (positve) red meter lead and if it shows any voltage the regulator is bad. should read no voltage between ground and gray lead

Bad regulator can take out your stator too. cause it's working extra hard.

a/c voltage from 2 yellows from stator 12.3-14.3v ac and .4v dc
ohm test from 2 yellows to stator .4
test each yellow to stator to grnd open
grey to ground from regulator (unplugged) 12.3v

if you have positive voltage of 12.3 off the grey bad regulator..... sounds like the stator at .4 is on its way into the water too
