2005 promax 300x Alarm
Have a 2005 promax 300x that on the top end has shut down. I will be running around the 100 mph mark and the alarm will sound constant and the motor will shut off. The motor is not over heating, water pressure is between 10-15psi, consumming lots of oil and gas. The only thing that comes to mind is an over rev condition. Are these the traits of the promax when it recognizes a major issue. I am turning 28 drag prop that has had lots of work. Threre is no dought it is turning in the upper 6000 rpm range at these speeds. The motor has been awsome, but need some help with this do not want to effect the motor. Can these motors handle constant higher rpm in the 6000 range?

I think the limiter is just over 7000 +/- a few 100rpm. Someone else may know more than me.

THE 300 Promax hits a "soft" limit @ 6100 +/- (motor goes rich) at 6400 it hits hard like somebody shut the motor off. Typically you pull back the throttle trying to figure out whats wrong, and everything is ok till you hit 6400 again. I believe the 300x has a hard limit of 6800. As far as I know they both have over-rev horns. (if you head is above the windshield/windscreen you probably can not hear it)

I don't know if an 05 is different but my 01 X rev limit is 6800, manual says it alarms at 7200. I would get it hooked to a DDT.

Thanks! That sounds just like what is happening. Do most run these motors for extended periods at high rpm with reliability? Always run 94 octane with the recomended merc oil.
