    Rode the e-bike today!

It's a blast! The bike is not saftied or registered yet so we just rode it around in the big parking lot at the school. The gearing is wrong (too tall) and only one of the 40 hp motors is connected but I got it up to 113 km/h before braking. It handled pretty good considering the frame is four inches longer than the Suzuki Bandit donor.

Kind of eerie at speed - the only sound is from the chain.

My students built the frame, swingarm and battery holder and did most of the assembly. The battery holder is an important piece as the batteries have to remain tightly clamped together as they will swell at high discharge rates, damaging them. Batteries are lithium ferrite, about 3.8 volt apiece, the pack is 80 volt, about 300 amp-hour. The motors can draw up to 400 amps each at full power.

These are the cells used. They are arranged in series in pairs, then paralleled to make a nominal 80 volt battery. They are arranged in two separate batteries in parallel totaling about 6 kw/hr in capacity.

The weather is supposed to be good this week so we may thrash it a bit more.

Very Cool! Did you see my post that an e-bike broke the ton at the Isle of Man and 200 on a 1/4 mile?? Pretty neat stuff.

I'll have to dig for it a bit. was in two different magazines I read. I think top two at Isle of Man busted a 100 and as I recall, #3 averaged 99.something so basically top three. One was a an effort, quietly backed by Honda but not the fastest one.
    Pretty amazing stuff regardless.

MICHAEL RUTTER AND TEAM SEGWAY RACING MOTCZYSZ MAKE HISTORY AT THE ISLE OF MAN TT RACES

Written by: Motorcyclist Staff on June 6 2012 3:01 PM

Michael Rutter and Team Segway Racing MotoCzysz made history on the Isle of Man today by becoming the first team to record a 100mph lap of the course in the SES TT Zero race in what is being hailed as one of the greatest achievements in the event’s one hundred and five year history.

John McGuinness closely followed Rutter home on the Team Mugen Shinden machine with Michael Rutter’s MotoCzysz teammate Mark Miller taking the final podium slot, with all three breaking the prestigious 100mph mark, which was first achieved by a conventional bike by Scotsman Bob McIntyre in 1957.
After a series of weather delays and revisions to the running order, ten machines lined up for the 2012 SES TT Zero race at the Isle of Man TT Races. Damp patches were reported around the course following the earlier rain but nothing was going to prevent the Midlands man from his history-making lap.

Michael Rutter had the honour of carrying the number one plate and was the first away down Glencrutchery Road and quickly established a lead of over 30 seconds at the first checkpoint at Glen Helen from John McGuinness with Mark Miller a further 3 seconds back in third. Yoshinari Matsu****a, representing Japanese outfit Komatti-Mirai Racing was running in fourth place with Rob Barber on the Austrian TGM IOT outfit completing the top five.
With Matsu****a dropping out of the race before Ballaugh Bridge, Rob Barber moved up to fourth but at the front of the field Rutter continued to set the pace with an average speed of 118.730mph and a lead of almost a minute from second placed John McGuinness.

Miller was quickest through the speed trap at 132.6mph with John McGuinness at 128.8 and Michael Rutter 126.6, down on the 152mph he set in qualifying but Rutter continued to be on the pace for the ‘ton’ and reached Ramsey Hairpin in 12:53.24 (119.653mph).
The capacity grandstand waited anxiously for news and when Rutter’s time of 20:31.00 (107mph) was reported at Cronk-ny-mona the crowd rose as one in anticipation of witnessing history.
Rutter duly crossed the line in 21:45.33 (104.056mph) and wrote his name and that of MotoCzysz in the TT Races Record books. The final podium received added poignancy with both John McGuinness on the Team Mugen (22:08.85-102.215mph) and Mark Miller (22:23.97-101.065mph) joining Michael Rutter in breaking the 100mph+barrier.

    Here's the website for them---> http://motoczysz.com/
They also developed a ground breaking 4 stroke sportbike. They use to show a Doc. on TV about the building of the 4 stroke sportbike.
This is the gasoline powered bike. http://motoczysz.com/motorcycles/c1_prototype
Here is the doc, in parts, they show on TV. Go to the video section to view it http://motoczysz.com/motorcycles/c1_990_2007#moto_video

I'm also into EVs, currently have 3 and love the "plug & play" aspect of them. This was my first build, Etek motor, (4) Odyssey batteries in series for 48 volts, gear for 43 mph top speed.
