Tires Hot
After driving only 30 minutes my trailer tires are hot. Pressure is correct and rims aren't hot and there's no brakes.
Tires are older but tread and sidewalls look good. Can this be from older tires or is it a weight issue. Single axle trailer 215/75 14s rated for 1870 lbs. Loadstar has a D radial tire rated at 2040 lbs.

How heavy is it? Sounds like too much weight for the tires. I remember getting a flat and borrowed a spare from someone with the wrong load range. It got real hot real quick.

^ I agree.. How "smushed" are the tires, or are they still retaining an upright and correct sideall posture..?

How hot is hot?I use an I.R. gun to check them. My tires in the summer will run tops 117-120. In cooler months 70-80. The road is hot now and rolling friction will heat them up too. If they get in the 150 and up range they are going to come loose internally and throw the tread. The IR guns are great to shoot the bearings and the engine temps too. Cheap at lots of places too. Get tires that are way over the intended load and no problems, near the max load and short lifespan..... I use 10 ply denmans on my 26' trailer and 6ply denmans on my stream. Never a problem...

Thanks, I'm not sure of the overall weight. Tires look good. I'll try the temp gun. They are a lot hotter than my truck tires

How old are they? If the belts and sidewalls flex alot that creates heat

It says H8 on the side but I can't believe they are 98s. I bought the boat 4 years ago and the tires didn't look new. I'm just trailering short distances for the rest of the summer, 7 miles each way, but $200 plus mounting is cheap compared to having a blowout and possible damage or an accident. I think I'll go with the Loadstars D Load at 2040 capacity.
