Had a full day on the water last sunday! Ran the ocean in 1-3' chop/swells from Jupiter to St Lucie Inlet and took the Intercoastal Waterway back on the way home. Stayed out til dusk and did some sandbar hopping!

Not yet..I thought of changing the yellow lightning bolts to blue....but I never know how long I'll keep the motors..I'll eventually get some 3.0 liters....

Hey Craig, I just put a feeler out there. I've been surfing for over 40 years and always wanted a beach house in Costa Rica and found one that I would love to buy..If someone came along with the right amount of $$$ I just might pull the trigger on the Checkmate so I could move forward with my beach house/surf shack!! Besides, I have my Pulsare 2400 Bowrider/Mercury Verado 300 Pro to play with!!

Time for an update. I ran the Merc 2.5L 200's til last month and found them a new home. The replacement power are Mercury 3.0L 225 carb motors. I'm told they put out about 240 hp and are really strong running, but thirsty, motors. I'm turning these 30" motors into 25" motors by removing the 5" spacer and replacing the stub shafts. I'm also installing brand new Extreme shift & throttle cables in the boat..1st time the boat has had new cables in 30+ years. Oil tanks will mount under the rear bench seat for easy access. A new swivel pin will be installed on the port motor; the starboard motor already has a new swivel pin. Also, solid upper motor mounts will be installed. I hung the motors a few weeks ago and Nick's Creative Marine pulled the powerheads today to change the motors to 25" motors.

It's gonna be a busy day at Nick's Creative Marine as my Mercury 3.0L Carb powerheads are dropped back on the mids with new solid motor mounts! I think the extra torque of the 3.0L motors will really wake things up on my 2800!!

Great progress by the team at Nick's Creative Marine! My "new to me" Mercury 3.0L carb powerheads are back on the midsections with new solid upper mounts. The 5" spacers have been removed to turn the motors into 25" mids. Motors are pre-rigged and ready to have the cowls reinstalled. New swivel pin installed on the port motor (starboard was already newly replaced). Uflex hyd. steering re-mounted. Just need to run the oil tank lines from under the rear bench seat through the rigging tubes to the motors, hook up the brand new Extreme cables to the throttle/shifter box and re-install the lower units with the proper stubshafts to keep them at 25" mids. I may even install a new helm if I get any extra $$$ and get rid of the old school high pressure tank.. Looking forward to getting the old Checkmate back on the water. This is the 3rd set of motors I've installed in the past 4 years and hopefully the last for a while!! These old carb motors are supposed to put out some good prop shaft hp (about 240 is what I'm being told!)

Drive shafts cut 5", rewelded and gearcases are reinstalled!! Motor are now 25" motors!! Getting close to finishing re-rig #3!!

My buddy bought a top gun from a guy in Conn. 2 yrs. Ago, wonder if it's the same guy you got your 2800 from ? Do you still have those 5" motor spacers ? I need to make a 25" 250 pro xs into a 25.
