This is as I stated before a very nice ride and it just gets better with all you do that said do they still make gill brackets and do they hold up to salt. Reason I ask I like the way they look and I debate on closing the transom on the donzi and going outboard. thanks Rick

Rick, the original Gill Racing Brackets have not been made for years. Some have rusted out due to neglect, others have held up well. I have to touch mine up each year when I see rust spots starting. Just a quick sand and a rattle can shot of black high gloss Rustoleum paint does the trick. They do have the very cool old school look but they are also very heavy being made from steel tube stock. Mine are unique in that they also have a built in rise to them!!

Time for an update! Finally finished the re-rig with the Mercury 3.0L 225 Offshores and ran the boat for the initial shakedown run. Boat felt strong right out of the hole and I immediately saw speeds in the 70mph range but could not ring it out due to all the boat traffic (and Marine Patrol) in the Intercoastal Waterway. Did a couple of runs but all the boat wakes and boat traffic was too much to deal with safely. The boat launched out of the hole nicely! The mid speed acceleration, torque and throttle response was awesome! I recorded a GPS plot on my last run that showed 68mph and climbing before I pulled out approaching the Blue Heron Bridge! At 65+mph I was only showing about 6lbs of water pressure and was concerned as the temperature gage on the port motor was indicating running hot so I returned to Nick's Creative Marine and dropped both motors one bolt hole down. Hopefully I'll get a chance to run the boat tomorrow morning and see how much the water pressure increases! If all goes well it will be time to put my cockpit back together, clean her up and enjoy another boating season!

Update time! After setting up this boat in numerous configurations, I now have enough seat time to really dial the boat in. I spent Wednesday morning swapping the gear cases and shift cables (with the help of Nick Scafidi of Nick's Creative Marine) to spin the props in again. Turning the props in gave me the stern lift needed to really free the boat up and get her to ride on the pad. I ran the St. Lucie Lock in fresh flat water, 85 degree temp, 70+ gallons of gas and hit a GPS recorded speed of 72MPH! That's the fastest the boat has run since installing the full cabin 3 years ago! The motors are still too deep and I was on the rev limiters at 62-6300 rpm. I'm sure there's still a few more mph in the setup by raising the motors and trying some bigger wheels than the old 26 pitch Merc Choppers I've been running. I think a pair of Bravo One 28's and raising the motors 2 bolt holes should yield 75mph..or more!! Thanks again for all the help Nick!!

Nick at Nick's Creative Marine hooked me up with a low hour pair of 2002 Mercury 250 EFIs! Spent today rigging both motors and firing them up on the hose! Hopefully I'll get to run her this weekend! Time to start hunting down a pair of Bravo One 26s or 28s as I know I'll be banging the rev limiters with my chopper 26s!

New speed record for my 2800! Yesterday was the first full day running the Merc 250 EFI's and a new set of Bravo One FS 28's. The motors are beasts and had no problem spinning the 28's to 6000 rpm indicated on my tachs. With all the PVS vents removed, the motors bog just for a couple seconds before spooling up and hitting hard. Acceleration was great and mid throttle response in the ocean was awesome while running in 1-3' chop. I was able to make a few short full throttle blasts but was limited for safety reasons due to a lot of boat traffic and boat wakes on a Sunday. I saw 75mph flash on my Navionics App and recorded one run that reflected 74.1 but I had to pull out, again, due to boat traffic. This is the fastest I've had the boat run since ownership and that's with a full cabin and 75+ gallons of gas on board!! Here's a quick video my wife recorded coming out of the hole:

Cool Steve. Can you try a minor amount of tab, to get rid of the porpoising, once your at faster speeds? Maybe you already tried that. I know you gotta find a long stretch to try all the "dialing-in" details... Coming along nicely. ...Next stop 300's...lol.

Fujimo, at speeds beyond 50 mph the boat is rock stable..it takes about 30 seconds to dial the bounce out by trimming up the motors after coming on plane, no tabs are needed at all. My wife should've shot the video another 15-20 seconds and you would've seen the boat planted nicely. I was amazed at how stable the boat was running 75! At slower speeds, 30-45, it's hard to keep it from porpoising with the amount of setback I'm running. Next year I may do a complete re-rig and delete the 24" Gill brackets and 7/8" thick tie plate in favor of a Bob's tandam hyd. jackplate or Porta bracket..Not only will it reduce the setback but also take a bunch of weight off the stern. The Gills are extremely heavy (but they look cool and are old school).
